Benelli vs Remington ...

I've been looking for a good all around HD Shotgun and have narrowed my choices down to 2.

The Benelli NOVA H2O 12ga/3.5" Pump - $420 cost

and

The Remington Marine Magnum 12ga/3" - $499 cost

- Both are nickel plated corrosion resistant designs
- 18.5" barrel on the H2O 18" on the MM
- The Benelli is slightly lighter at 7.2lbs vs 7.5lbs
- The Benelli is slightly longer at 40" vs 38.5
- Both are nickel plated on all metal parts to prevent corrosion. (Everywhere else they're polymer)
- Capacites 4+1 for the H20 6 for the MM. (Not sure but I think the Benellis capacity can be increased to 6+1 ... the MM cannot but is already at 6)

So what do you guys think ? Any experiences with the Benelli.

I dig the looks and feel of the Benelli a LOT. But Like the MM a lot too.

So any caveats between the two ?

I love my Nova. I use it more than my 870 now. But, this is only because the stock measurments fit me perfectly. It doesn't function any better than my 870, nor does it pattern any better.

They're both flawless and shoot where I point.

I would say though, that there are far more aftermarket parts for the 870, than the Nova. In addition, the stock/receiver on the Nova are all one piece. There is no such thing as getting a new stock for the Nova. This does not bother me as I love the fit, however if you're one who'd like a pistol grip, or folding stock...etc, the 870 is for you.

Hey thanks Trip ... Just noticed you're from WI ... Me too :)

I just got off the phone with Midwestern Shooters Supply and they told me the ATF has restricted Benelli's importing of magazine extensions to the USA

The H20 had a Nickel Plated 3 shot Mag Extension which woulda made it a 7+1 :(

WTF? is the reason for this ??? Othe manufacturers can sell extensions and any company here in the USA (Which I already found TomKnapp) Makes em. But nobody is bothering to make a 3 shot Nickel Plated one that would match the H20 :(

Go with the remington. You cant legally extend the beneli to beyond a 5 round tube magazine. They cant be imported that way and cant be modified that way unless you reduce the total ATF countable listed parts.
More info on this issue on the link below.

The remington you can have a 30 round tube mag legally if you wanted to.
Beneli has more than 10 listed parts and im not sure anyone makes compliance parts to reduce the count enough to be able to legally add a magazine extension past 5 rounds. Extensions exist and are sold after market but as soon as you put one on your imported shotgun your a felon according to the 1968 GCA law.
Unless your a law enforcement officer with a government owned shotgun from your dept.

No kidding ???

I'm finding a bunch of manufacturers that are offering aftermarket extensions.

They can make em for Benelli's but they're illegal to install ? :(

expedition - if the definition is true, and he adds an extention made in the USA, would that keep his firearm compliant?

Petre, yep, I live in Wausau. Where are you located? There are a few other members of this board from WI. Most live south of me near Milwaukee/Madison..etc.

Adding an extension doesnt reduce the already existing parts count.
I garrantee you that Beneli would have added a US made extension if they could just to make the shotgun more attractive to buyers.
Finding US replacement parts for countable parts gets expensive.
A USA made barrel is one part, a tube magazine is another, a tube follower is another, on and on.
All the paramilitary rifles like Centuries FAL's or G3 have to go through the same BS needing Substitutable USA made parts.
SKS rifles need 7 parts to swap out its sad.
That import restriction was added to GCA law during a Democrat majority congress twisting George Bush Senior's arm after he had lost the NRA's blessing for endorsement. The point of the restriction was to eliminate much of the influx of semiauto (yes pumpaction guns got caught in it too) imports. The imports were modified and continues trucking in with new compliant configuations.
Chinese AK's became --> MAK90 Modified AK 1990 lovely new thumbhole stock instead of the evil plain pistol grip.
Unfortunately, all imports were affected. Beneli was caught as well.

Well THAT stinks :( I was thinkin the same thing Trip . I did find a company that makes a bunch of replacement parts for em and there's guys all over the net talkin about having added the aftermarket extensions ... I guess the BATF has it's work cut out , gonna have to go find and arrest all those bad guys with italian made guns that have too many shells in em.

I'm just NE of West Bend Trip . :)

Beneli imports guns to America. So all the parts on the gun that cross the border inward are imported. However, they might someday build a factory here. Glock might as well soon if they gain a new military contract.
A glock shotgun may dominate the shotgun market as the pistols do in shear sales numbers.
