Benelli R1

Starting to look at a semi-auto rifle (non-military). Really like the Benelli, haven't shot one but handled it at the gunshop. Anyone have experience with one? Much appreciated.

I have one and I love it! Its a 300 win mag and is the comfortech. Smoothest shooting semi I have ever fired. I can get 1" or less usually at 100 yds with it also so dont be afraid of the loss of accuracy going with the semi auto. there are a few manufacturers out there that know what they are doing when it comes t semi autos and Benelli is one of them. The customer service has been 2nd to none. Its a really good rifle as far as recoil and gave me the easiest follow up shot I have ever had. Time will tell if this firearm will last as I have only owned mine for one season but so far so good. hope this helped a little.

I was looking at The benelli mr1 also but the price is really high. As far as reliability and quality, how do these differ from a Ruger mini 14?

Benelli MR-1

The MR-1 is not the same as the R1.

I want one, but a magazine article said it was not a MOA rifle. This has me wondering as always when I read magazine write-ups.

I just ordered extra parts. No probs I just like to have extra stuff. Accuarcy has NOT been even close to a prob with mine. I'm shooting 165 grn Hornady ammo. Three shot groups have been very good. If you need sub m.o.a every time you should prob just go purchase a bolt. None of the semi auto manufacturers are going to guarantee sub m.o.a ever, mine does but some may not you never know the semis are just generally not quite as accurate. and for the mr1 guys we are talking about the Benelli R1 hunting rifle not the MR1 they are very different.

Semi-auto in what caliber?
Many options can be more limited in available calibers.

What is it's intended use?

Some more specifics may get you recommendations based on what you need, not just what someone else here has...

Thanks harshmancw, I'm looking at the R1 in .30-06 to go after deer and hogs. I've got a quote from my LGS at around 1k out the door. I was recommended to check out the Rem 750 as it was 'improved' and an alternate to the R1. Obviously I'll check it out, but I really like the feel of the Benelli. we'll see soon enough.

No problem gmarr I dont know enough about the rem 750 to comment on it but 1000.00 giver or take 50.00 sounds about right and I really dont think youll be sorry. If you get one and you arent set on the walnut I would suggest the comfortech as it is so comfortable to shoot. One other thing about the r1 is you can take it apart and clean it very quick and easy with out any tools though a snap ring plier does make things easier, and no need to re sight it after you put it back together.

R1 might be a fine rifle, but also check out the Browning Bar Semi Auto if you are looking at the Rem 750.
