Benelli Nova

Im looking at a Benelli Nova. but since its quite new, most people I have talked, actually all, have not had any experince or heard anything about it. I was wondering if anybody has heard or had good experinces with this gun.

The general idea is that Benelli = good. They make good weapons and the Nova is no exception.

The nova is available in a personal defense model with a shorter barrel and ghost ring sights.

By nature it is a pump shotgun so recoil will be a little more, BUT Benelli offers a mercury recoil reducer with mounting bracket to mount to the inside of the Nova's stock which will reduce some of the felt recoil.

The chambers for 12 gauge are in 2.75", 3" and 3.5", it will feed all three. You can get the gun in camoflauge.

The finish is somewhat of a Matte black with a rougher surface texture which needs to be taken care of with a light coat of oil because I've seen some just sitting at Dick's sporting goods (they don't take care of them) which have collected rust on spots. However; I don't know what they do to the guns so who knows.

The gun draws nice, I don't know my actual distance for arms but I do have a 29" bow draw length. It pulls up nice, it's easy to sight, the 'pin' is a usually red light gathering hi-viz type device which is easy to see against the gun's black exterior.

Price is approximately $299 in our area for this weapon. I currently shoot a Remington Wingmaster which is an awesome gun but it does come with more of a premium price.

The Nova is a great VALUE for what you get. 20 gauge models are available as well as a combo with a rifled barrel and field barrel.

The only bad things I've heard were FTE (failed to eject) because with longer shells (3.5") you have to cycle the pump the whole way while a shorter shell might not need to be cycled as far. Get used to running the pump the whole length and you'll be ok. Short-stroking if you will.

Good luck with your purchase and happy hunting, best thing for a shotgun is to go to the dealer and feel it out for yourself. Some people appreciate a longer gun with a better pull up on it, while other's like shorter barrels. I myself like a longer shotgun which I find easier to aim.

I had a Nova for a while. It was pretty nice, in Max4 camo, but ended up trading it. Novas have more felt recoil than a 870 or BPS, although you can get a mercury insert for your stock if it bothers you. I am not recoil sensitive, but was surprised the first time I shot it. The forearms all rattle, but doesn't hurt the function of the gun. I have heard of very few problems with it, and I know guys who have used them hard. As comfortable as I thought it was when I bought it, after a few hunts, I decided it was not for me. It just didn't fit me as well as I thought, which is the most important factor in a shotgun. I would prefer either of the two pumps I listed above over a Nova. They fit me (6'1, 240lbs) much better, and haven't had a problem with either of them.

Good value for the money

I've had a Nova for a couple years and put probably 1000 shells through it, mostly 1 oz. trap loads.
It is a work-horse pump-action shotgun, and a reasonably priced one at that. I could have bought the Rem 870 for the same price at the time, which if I recall correctly was around $279 at Galyans (now Dick's). What swayed me toward the Nova was the Benelli name and the fact that it could digest 3 1/2" shells if I ever chose to abuse my shoulder (I haven't yet.)
Recoil with the trap loads I shoot is not bad. The 870 actually pointed better for me, but I didn't want to have to buy another gun on the rare occasion I use 3 1/2" shells for geese.
One other nice thing about the Nova is the fact that I don't worry about scratching it.....throw it in the bottom of the boat and go. It is easy to clean, and has cycled flawlessly thus far.
Hope this helps.

I've got a nova well my dad does I've shot it a lot though, like people have said it is a nice gun, it's a Benelli. The only thing is I find it a little akward It is just a lot bigger all around than what i'm used to. just a fatter stock and handguard. I'm used to the M1 field. Make sure you like how it feels when you shoulder it. Other than that I don't think you can go wrong with it. It'll shoot anything all the way up to 3 1/2 in shells along with slugs. I say if you like it buy it.

+1 to n3twrkm4n's post.

I haven't shouldered a shotgun that points as naturally for me as my Nova. Everyone is different, I just may be lucky. Love the sight it comes with as well.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Nova uses the same rotating bolt technology that Benelli uses in it's auto-loader shotguns. Definitely a good thing. I've never had a failure to eject or feed or any other failure for that matter. I use this gun for trap league, and hunting. It's my do-it-all utility shotgun really.

It's a breeze to take down and clean. I mean ridiculously easy. I also own the short-barrelled model with ghost-ring sights... that's my HD shotgun. Awesome.

I do not like the finish on the barrel - some sort of rough parkerized finish (not sure if the same finish is on the camo model???). I'm having it redone and blued. Other than that, I have no complaints. The one complaint I do have is cosmetic, which is no big deal really. Nothing wrong with an 870 either! I just stopped using my 870 because the Nova points so well for me.

For the price, the Benelli name-tag and technology, chrome-lined barrel, and IMO sharp looks... I can't think of a better choice for a brand new pump. There will be people who tell you to get a used 870 Wingmaster instead... they're not necessarily wrong. But, like I said, my 870 sits at home more often than not.

I don't have one, but I want one. It is a very good gun from any info that I have gotten. The Mossberg 500 is much better than you hear on some of these forums, and you get a lot for your money. I have one of them and two Remingtons as far as pumps go, and I like them all.

Nova

I own a Nova and have had it for about 3 yrs. Real Tree Camo Coat. It is a very good hunting shotgun. I a big bird hunter and the 3.5in shell mine digests is super sweet for geese and turkey. I have never had rust on it (even after going azz over tea kettle into a creek/crick);) or a malfunction that wasnt human induced:D. The pump action is smooth and the shot patterns are reliable. The price was fabulous too i think i paid $270 for it. The red Hi Viz sight is great for those "oops getting too dark to hunt shots"
