The general idea is that Benelli = good. They make good weapons and the Nova is no exception.
The nova is available in a personal defense model with a shorter barrel and ghost ring sights.
By nature it is a pump shotgun so recoil will be a little more, BUT Benelli offers a mercury recoil reducer with mounting bracket to mount to the inside of the Nova's stock which will reduce some of the felt recoil.
The chambers for 12 gauge are in 2.75", 3" and 3.5", it will feed all three. You can get the gun in camoflauge.
The finish is somewhat of a Matte black with a rougher surface texture which needs to be taken care of with a light coat of oil because I've seen some just sitting at Dick's sporting goods (they don't take care of them) which have collected rust on spots. However; I don't know what they do to the guns so who knows.
The gun draws nice, I don't know my actual distance for arms but I do have a 29" bow draw length. It pulls up nice, it's easy to sight, the 'pin' is a usually red light gathering hi-viz type device which is easy to see against the gun's black exterior.

Price is approximately $299 in our area for this weapon. I currently shoot a Remington Wingmaster which is an awesome gun but it does come with more of a premium price.
The Nova is a great VALUE for what you get. 20 gauge models are available as well as a combo with a rifled barrel and field barrel.
The only bad things I've heard were FTE (failed to eject) because with longer shells (3.5") you have to cycle the pump the whole way while a shorter shell might not need to be cycled as far. Get used to running the pump the whole length and you'll be ok. Short-stroking if you will.
Good luck with your purchase and happy hunting, best thing for a shotgun is to go to the dealer and feel it out for yourself. Some people appreciate a longer gun with a better pull up on it, while other's like shorter barrels. I myself like a longer shotgun which I find easier to aim.
