Benelli Nova-Rattles????

I was up in Maine at the Kittery Outdoor Trading Post and they had a huge assortment of new and used shotguns. From my previous post I was looking for price ranges on a semi auto for trap/skeet. But I was not limiting myself to that.

For pumps, I ran across a Benelli Nova w/ a 28" bbl. It had 3 choke tubes, box and papers and two beads on the ribbed barrel. The far bead was red and seemed to glow. It almost looked like part of a night site. They were asking $300 and to be honest it felt good and light.

My only problem with it was that the stock seemed to rattle almost as if it wasn't fitting properly. There was one other Nova there and it did it to. Is that normal? Does that cause any problems? Is here a way to stop that from happening?

I liked it but it just didn't seem right it doing that.

Many pump guns rattle, exception being the almost perfect 870(G).

Everything else on the Nova seems first class, and owners do sing their praises. If it bothers you a lot, get an 870. If not, go for it.

HTH...

Nova rattles

Yes, they rattle. I saw a post (somewhere?) that mentioned putting velcro on them for police work. That stopped the rattle. I'd really like to see a photo (or a description) of where the velcro went because I'd like to use some on mine.

Benelli Nova - rattles

I searched for the post mentioning a fix for this, and found this -

"Try putting sticky side velcro strips on the pump handle it the noise bothers you. We did this with several issue guns for a PD."

If someone does this and it works, could you post a picture showing the velcro, with a description of how long/wide it had to be. I'd sure like to stop miine rattling - and the post above is the first suggestion I've seen of a fix.

Nova rattles

I got this from Tad - the fellow who posted a short note on the velcro. If anyone tries this - could you please report back on how well it works (include some pictures if possible).

Look at the clearance between the barrel and the pump handle close to the
front of the magazine tube. Get one of the self adhesive Velcro packs. Take
the "loop" side of the Velcro and check for fit on both sides of the pump
handle and the barrel. I do not remember how far back I determined was a good
fit. You need to leave some clearance for dismounting the barrel. After you
check the fit. remove the barrel and stick the strips to the pump handle. Not
the barrel, due to heat. If you fire heavy loads fast you may scorch the
Velcro a bit but it should not matter and is cheaply and easily replaced.
Don't make it too tight or you might bind the action. It will just "muffle"
the noise, not eliminate it. I do not own a Nova. I've just been around guns
all my life and sold them at a gun store I worked at for a while. I came up
with a few tricks to help customers out.
