Benelli Nova Pump's Recoil?

I have heard mixed reviews of the benelli nova pump. some good some bad but I am curious as I have heard, do to the light weight, it kicks like a mule. I need a gun that I can shoot 100+ rounds with a weekend and not destroy my shoulder. Any thoughts?
Thanks

If you want to save your shoulder, shoot the heaviest gun with the lightest target loads and use an autoloader for even less wear and tear

That gun weighs 6-1/2 pounds, according to Weatherby. Pretty light - which for a gun you are toting all day is a nice feature, but for targets, you really want something in the 8 pound plus range to soak up recoil. Even some of my 20 gauge O/U's are heavier than that

going hunting and shooting a little ammo is different then going out and shooting 4 or 5 boxes of ammo a weekend.

I don't understand where the idea came from that the Nova was a light gun. They weigh right at 8 lbs. and are the heaviest of the common pump shotguns. At around 7 3/4 the Browning BPS is next and a Remington 870 or Mossberg will weigh between 7- 7 1/2 lbs. The older Winchester 1300's were around 6 1/2 lbs.

The ones I used to own were not bad on recoil at all unless using 3 1/2" turkey loads and those kick hard out of anything. I sold mine partly because they were too heavy and did not point and balance well to me. I like the guns from a mechanical perspective however.

The factory recoil pad on the Nova could be better, or you could add a mercury recoil reducer. They have a factory mount that is made to fit inside the buttstock. This adds about another 1/2 lb to the weight of the gun.

well if you learn proper form and shoot a gun that fits... Not really so true...

when money was not an issue, I would fire well over a couple thousand rounds in a weekend from 15-20 different guns. A few hundred were .22lr but various pistols, lots of C-fire rifle and Shotguns were the rule of thumb... 20 and 12 gauge were my normal shotguns and .30-30 up to .30-06 were typical rifle rounds.

Do enuff of those weekly drills and the sore shoulder is not an issue... Pull up them big boy underoos and make it happen...

jmr40 said it .......the Benelli Nova, 12ga, 28" barrel is an 8 lb gun .... and if you look at other pump gun specs, the Nova is a heavy pump gun.

That means it will give you less recoil - for any given shell - than a Browning BPS as an example. Recoil is from 3 Primary factors - Weight of gun, ounces of shot in shell, velocity of shell. An 8 lb gun ( for any given shell ) will give you less recoil than a 7 1/2 lb gun - no matter who makes either gun......

Now if a gun doesn't fit you / too much drop at comb - and it recoils into your cheek bone ( instead of under it ) - it will beat the stuffing out of you. I'm 6' 5" and 290 lbs - and I can shoulder and take the recoil from most any gun made / but if its beating on my cheek bone, I'm going to flinch after 50 rounds of that .... So as you pick a gun / you need a gun that " Fits " - so it hits where you look / your eye is the rear sight on a shotgun. If its recoiling into your cheek bone / its probably going to shoot high .... Its not about sucking it up / and dealing with it -- although I'm prone to do that as well .... a shotgun needs to hit where you look ! If at the end of a 200 shell day, your shoulder hurts, it may be gun fit, mount issues, dropping your elbow - any number of fundamental issues / maybe aggravated by Fit ( if drop at comb, drop at heel, or length of pull ) are not right for you. Shotguns do not come in one size fits all ..... And maybe 10% of people that sell shotguns / have any idea about this stuff ....they will often sell you what you have, make any number of foolish comments ....and I hear them all the time..

Price range x thru y
Try them all

I've got one. If you are shooting low brass 8's thru it, it's nothing.

If you are running a 3.5 inch turkey load thru it...well, lets just say that I didn't do that but twice.
