Benelli Nova Barrel

I've got a Benelli nova (12ga) that I got on a trade for my nintendo Wii. It's got a 28" barrel... It's massive. I'm sure it's great for hunting but i've never gone so i wouldn't know. I have ZERO desire to hunt, and it doesn't look like trading it will happen so where can I find a reasonably priced shorter barrel? I could justify keeping it if i could refer to it as my Defense shotgun but not at 4 feet tall lol. I google searched and found only one for like $250 but that can't be the lowest price... Can it?

$250 is probably a bargain for a Nova barrel. I like the Nova but that is one of the reasons I no longer own one. When looking for replacement barrels I found that a whole gun would only cost me around $50 more than a 2nd barrel. Either sell it, trade it, or shorten the barrel you have.

I found the same issue with my Stoeger. All a guy can do is try to find a used one on Gunbroker. Right now I don't see any on there. I plan to hunt with mine but wanted a shorter barrel for home defense. I've since decided to leave it as is. I'd be ahead to buy another gun later.

Benelli USA will be happy to sell you a shorter barrel. They make an 18.5" rifle sighted barrel for your Nova.
"...$250 is probably a bargain for a Nova barrel..." Stolen at that price. New 18.5" Nova barrels run $310.00 from ableammo.com and they don't keep 'em in stock.
Still a good trade, but I'd trade it for a Rem 870 or sell it and buy an 870.

Chop a few inches off at a time until you like the length, just don't shorten it past 18"... Anything under 18" needs a tax stamp for SBS.

WTH!!!!!!!!!!

i just bought a tactical nova and saw this thread, went to ableammo to check out the barrels.

$385 for a 26" barrel and $349 for a 26" gun ??????????

Yep, Benelli is real proud of their sh*t...

Maybe it's the smartest marketing ever... I guess as long as they keep the prices of their barrels super high, they'll sell more guns. You can buy another gun at the length of barrel you want for the same or less than the price of a new barrel.

Just because a 500 or an 870 is cheaper doesn't make it a better gun / and the Benelli isn't better because its more expensive.

Nothing wrong with a Nova - although my preference in pump guns is a Browning BPS. Picking a gun is about fit / not about who makes it or what it costs.

Well, there's expensive and there's expensive. Cabelas lists an 18" Express finish cylinder bore barrel for 119.99.

That's less than 1/2 the price of the Express gun rather than 80 to 100+ percent of the price of the Nova.

I suspect that Benelli and indeed all of the Beretta family of companies are a lot more interested in selling guns rather than parts. That is perhaps the more profitable approach.

Not trying to besmirch the Nova, but clearly as a percentage of the cost of the gun you can buy barrels for Remington or Mossberg a lot cheaper than you can for the Nova.

Dang... I was hoping to find some secret, well hidden website that's passed down from worthy shooter to worthy shooter....where golden light streams from the URL bar, and angels voices echo through the HTML as you browse the rediculously low prices lol.
I really love my benelli, it's just perfect on almost every level! The craftsmanship and attention to detail is very high, But as i said, I don't need this long of a barrel and now i'm torn. Because I could spend that money on a shorter better priced shotgun, But then i'll NEVER shoot my benelli, so then why have it? But I don't dare sell it because this one, I will regret. I wish I could sell my current barrel and get some money back, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.
Ah well.... Anyway, Thanks Fella's... Much help as always. Maybe i'll just suck it up and get into hunting... Just one more place to dump all this money that I don't have.
