what should i expect to pau for a lightly used benelli m4? and as a side note, while its a "tactical" shotgun, is there any reason it couldnt be used as a turkey gun? from what i can tell, It should be suitable as a tactical home defense gun and a turkey gun. any input?

The price is highly dependent on local supply and demand. You may want to sign in at gunbroker and search for the actual prices they went for. The ones I've seen locally are few and far between and still average around $1300-1500.

I ended up with an M3 instead but still looking out for an M4.

Don't know about turkeys as I haven't hunted one (yet).

Benelli's site shows 18.5" barrels on the M4. Are there any serious turkey hunters that try to use a 18.5" barrel?

I guess you could if you wanted the challenge of bagging a turkey under those conditions. But if your goal was to actually bring home a turkey, I'm not sure a serious turkey hunter would want to waste a morning calling in a tom only to have him fly away because the best group his gun is capable of only puts one pellet in the bird's ass while the rest fly right by it.
