yes, it's a very good gun - but it is a "gas gun" which is not typical for Benelli. Because it is a "gas gun" it does not shoot as cleanly as the Benelli inertia recoil system. It doesn't make it bad - just different.
I would put it or a gun from Wilson Combat on the top of my Defensive shotguns.

The ARGO gas system does however reduce recoil substantially compared to other Benellis. I have been very happy with my M4. The 2 round mag extension (using 2 3/4 inch shells) gives a total capacity of 7+2, meaning 7 in the tube, 1 in the chamber, and 1 resting on the carrier. (The latter of which you can do with the M4.)

How much do they go for? I really like the collapsing stock design, sure that's probably not legal being an import and having an extended mag tube.
I haven't thought about shotguns in a long time, not there are a few I am considering, this is one. If I can find one the same price or a little more than the FN Police Auto, will get this Benelli

That is a correct statement regarding the inertia recoil system. Though the Benelli guns that had this problem more offten had more than a light --- there is always a margin on the engineering of anything, so in general they are ok with an acessory of some sort but overloaded (dare I say "tacticool") they can have problems.
It is also true that the inertia guns if not held tight or mounted firmly to the shoulder can fail to cycle.
Obviously these two things could be probematic in a military shotgun.
The M4 or an 11-87 being gas guns have much nicer recoil then the inertia guns or a pump gun.
I honestly considered an M4 but simply could not work myself up to that price for a shotgun, and I prefer steel recivers to alloy anyway. Hence the 11-87 from Remington which I am more than happy with.

I too am/was a Remington guy. As member/officer of a collegiate clay target team, I spent the last three years working on Beretta 391s (Beretta gave us a discount). I have to say that the aluminum receiver is a non issue, and that the 391 is a better shotgun. They can take more of a pounding sheer number of shells wise. I've never seen a problem with major component failure with either gun, just small parts on both. Is a 391 going to replace my 11-87? Nope. It isn't that much better.
