Benelli M1S90 Rear Ghost Ring

I've got the older version of Benelli's factory Ghost Ring sights. As several have noted, it's a pretty delicate set-up. The entire assembly appears to be attached only by two hex head screws. Has anybody attempted to replace the rear sight only with the newer style (or another manufacturer's design), leaving the front post intact?

I'd be interested in how it went, and where you found the parts.

Thanks,

If my memory is correct, the old rear sight on Benellis uses 6-40 or 6-48 screws. The new sight is made by LPA and is much better. You will need to drill and tap two 8-40 holes and a somewhat larger clearance hole for the elevation screw. If you don't have this capability, a gunsmith or machinist will have to do it.

You could also have a MMC rear sight mounted. It would only require two 8-40 holes.

Without the benefit of DML's knowledge, I took the sights off my older gun and looked at replacing the unit with the newer setup. It was quickly apparent that a straight swap would not work. I guess it will have to go to the gunsmith.

If we had true speed AND precision, we would have remembered to welcome you as a new member! Sorry about that oversight. Hope to see you around.

Not to rain on your parade, but my Benelli M1 tactical, with the new LPA sight, had the screws snap off during a grouse hunting outing last fall. Raised it to sight in a bird, and found myself seeing a lone front sight. Seeing we were hunting in open corn fields and I hadn't smacked the several week old shotgun around much, my guess is the shock of firing caused the screws to shear off.

As such, I am not sure if it is more durable than what you currently have. You may want to replace the lightweight screws with something a little stronger.

As for my firearm, Benelli fixed/replaced it under warranty, and despite this setback, I still love the gun.

Welcome to the forum. :)
