Benelli B76

Got my Birthday present from my wife last week. It's what I've always wanted. A Benelli B76 9mm.

My dad bought one by accident in the mid 80's thinking it was. Beretta, and fell in love with it. He still has his, but now I have one of my own.

It's a super soft shooter, accurate as can be, and went 220 rounds without a bobble for me. That included a 20 round box of Speer Gold Dot 124's.

With the popularity of 9mm 1911 really picking up, I think these pistols would have been hot if they were still around. Alas, they were a bust. Americans wanted high capacity, and these are single stacks. Benelli made less than 10,000 of them before giving up.

Here are some pics.

That is extremely slick and I love a single stack, steel 9mm pistol.

I will go out on a limb and guess that these are pricey handguns... am I right?

They are mostly just hard to find. They usually go for under a thousand, unless the auction gets out of hand.

Terrific pickup, t4terrific! I have a few and like shooting them quite a bit.

The B77 in 32acp is a bit slide-bitey, though, and the cleaning/field strip procedure is certainly...unique. Can't argue with their accuracy, though. Great shooting!

Very Nice! I bought a new one years ago just because they were so different. Never did figure out how the locking system functioned. I thought the frame construction was interesting and unusual for a centerfire pistol. Two metal shell halves welded together to form the frame as on the Ruger 22 pistols. Nicely done though.

Beautiful! I really appreciate different, and unusual guns. Now, I want one. I have a Benelli MP95E .22 competition pistol. All their guns are very well made.

I never really understood what they were, until they were no longer obtainable. It sure does have the "cool as hell" kind of "Star Wars" look. I haven't looked at a Benelli B76 next to a pic of the Kalashnikov P-14 pistol, but I sense a certain resemblance. Naturally, I'd expect the Benelli's fit and finish to be superior, but from a medium long distance, I might not be able to tell one from the other.

Very nice

I've got a B76 as well as a few others of the Benelli "B" series pistols. I find them to be great shooting firearms.

, steel 9mm pistol.

Well, yes, kind of.
The frames are stamped steel sheet welded together ala Ruger .22 standard. A cheap way to build a pistol, BUT, they made up for it in the inertial lockup and all machining is excellent quality.
I've heard that the inertia retarded blowback will have problems if not held solidly, but some folks just should buy gas operated pistols heh heh.

I prize my .30 parabellum chambered Benelli, B80 isn't it? A worthless caliber by some standards, but fun to shoot and to reload. The real problem with .30 luger reloading is finding a good bullet that actually fits the bore right.

Yes, the B80 is the 30 Luger. The B77 is 32ACP, which is just a straight blowback design.

Benelli also built a B76 Sport and B80 Sport with target grips and an extended barrel with a weight. The MP3S was similar to the sport models, but were single action only. They were built in 9mm and 32 Wadcutter.

Thanks.

I have 1911's, Glocks, and other popular types of pistols.

The B76 isn't "the best", but it is cool to find a relatively rare, yet high quality pistol like this Benelli. The fact that, for many years, my dad had one, and for most of my childhood, it was his only pistol, makes it a special model for me, personally.

I had a chance to buy a blued B82 for $350 a couple of years ago.

I wanted a B76, and never heard of 9mm Ultra, so I passed.

I still regret not getting it.

Excellent collection!

The disassembly is abnormal, but still very simple. I can open the ears on the locking block with my thumb nails. The only tool required is to push the firing pin in far enough to drop the locking block.

That can be done with anything from a knife blade to a pencil.

I have no ideal if was a nickel factory finished. Got it from Simpsons LTD.

I think I tried to buy that gun but when I called, it had just sold! It was probably 3-4 years ago and it was cheap.

My understanding is that the nickel is not factory, btw.
