Belts...

I have seen over this year a few people point out good deals on belts made with reinforcement (kydex etc...). Send me your recommendations I am in search of the right belt now.

There was one for around $50 that everyone was raving about and the search function turned up nothing...or too much for that matter.

Thanks in advance,

Beentown

One Source Tactical- Sneaky Urban Fighting Belt. Just got mine today, holds up everything no problem. Best I've used. Depending on your size, about $30. I wear a large size, $1 extra. From what I've read, also excellent for sore backs caused by stiff, reenforced belts. Haven't had mine that long to make that determination.

Belts, systems...

There are a few well made belts on the US market. Many firearms instructors & armed professionals suggest a 1.5" width for large/med size pistols or DA revolvers with barrels over 4", ;).
A few savvy makers like Ken Null & Mitch Rosen sell dress belts that taper off to 1.25" in the front to appear like a regular men's dress belt.
As for kydex re-enforced designs, see www.5.11tactical.com www.Blackhawk.com www.Thebeltman.net www.Miltsparks.com Kramer Gun Leather(Greg Kramer), www.usgalco.com . I've heard of the "Liger" belt but I never owned one. Many gun forum members rave about The Beltman belts for concealed carry-duty use. Blackhawk has some good simple designs. 5.11 too.

Also check out www.thebeltman.net He does outstanding leather belts that you can have reinforced with some kind of kydex strips. They aren't cheap belts but they'll likely last a very long time.

My first gun belt was a $50 belt that lasted about one year before it broke down. My second belt is a beltman that cost about $90 and is still as stiff as the day I got and that was over 3 years ago.

+1 on the wilderness instructor belt. Got it for christmas last year and is still going strong and for 40 bucks you can't beat it!

I've been highly satisfied with both a Hellweg (over a dozen years) and an inexpensive Don Hume (from the great-service guys at Gunners Alley).
The Hume 'lost' its color quicker; both offer solid support for guns sized up to my 7.5" 357 Redhawk (okay, this one gets worn under a London Fog ).

I make CCW belts from two pieces of leather, bonded, and sewn.

A belt with a kydex or metal liner will be uncomfortable on many (but certainly not all) people. The reason simply is, it does not flex like leather does.

Leather will, after a while adapt to the shape of the wearer, and become much more comfortable (especially if the wearer has a bit of a belly) in the long run.

The double layer leather is exactly what a lot of police belts are made from, and they carry up to 20 pounds of "gear" on theirs with no problem.

To each his own, . . . but for long term comfort, I recommend leather only.

May God bless,
Dwight

I have one from Looper that I like. It was about $50

I also have a Wilderness belt (I think I have the frequent flyer model) with the reinforcement they offer (CSM or CMS they call it).

I actually prefer the Wilderness one and wear it 99% of the time. I like it better because it uses the velcro instead of typical belt holes. This allows me to get a better "exact" fit...instead of having to choose between two belt holes where one may be too loose and one may be too tight.

I've got a couple of 1.5" belts from The Beltman, and also a couple of belts from Wilderness.

The Wilderness belts are not for wear in more social settings, IMO. They are a purpose built tool that provide an extremely comfortable platform to carry a gun. They are more comfortable than anything a traditional belt can possibly offer though.

The reason for this, is the belt is infinitely adjustable for girth. You're not locked into the 5 holes punched in the leather. You can adjust the belt any fraction of an inch you want and then re-attach the velcro.

But... they stick out like a sore thumb in a workplace or a get-together of plain old regular (i.e. non-gun) people.

As such, my wilderness belts are for outdoors trips and training or match opportunities. They surpass the functionality of my Beltman belts in every way except social presentability.

I disagree on the Wilderness style belts. I wear the 5.11 rip off of the wilderness belt almost every day in a business casual environment. No one has ever commented at all. The coyote tan belt goes fairly well with khaki or coyote pants. OD green obviously doesn't work in the office too well, but a black one would.

Nylon belts are just infinitely superior to leather on the functionality side. I almost never wear a leather belt unless I'm in dress slacks.

I wear mine all the time with jeans or shorts. No one has ever said anything, except maybe "cool belt".
