bellied brass

What does it mean when 45 lc brass is bellied,or poofed out about mid waybetween the rim and case opening also primers are flat ,high pressure? Im talkin factory hornady ammo,960 fps 460 me any ideas

All my .45 Colt brass is "bellied", and I shoot nothing but mild loads. If your cases are difficult to extract though, you should consider the reason why. BTW, I only neck size my .45 Colt brass so the balance of the case does not get work hardened. I'm wondering if I should anneal the mouths eventually.

So if your colt 45 case is bellied, you guys are saying a sure fix is to load it into a cylinder, aim at the target, pull the hammer back, let the hammer fall and strike the primer, and then listen for a rally loud bang ... yeah?

Other than being silly, I was thinking that the slight increase in diameter of the case might be a feature to assist with a tighter gas seal for the cartridge, to prevent less blow-back-by around the case edges?

That's part of the advantage of neck sizing only. I don't size at all when loading BP, same as they usually didn't back in the day. The compressed powder keeps the bullet from backing into the case, and the crimp keeps it from backing out. The cases last about forever!
