i just purchased a bell and carlson carbalite classic stock for my 1903a3. at 150.00 i expected better quality. i put the action in the stock and the trigger gaurd hangs out the bottom more than an 1/8th of an inch. the instructions said to call them if there was any fitting problems as it should drop right in. i did just that only to get an irritated lady who said the tech would have to call me back. a week later they finally called back to say send the stock and the action back to them. by that time i had given up and started fitting it myself. i shouldnt have to pay shipping charges to send it all back to them on a stock that allready cost so much.
my questions.........should the trigger gaurd be flush with the stock or be recessed in a little. the stock it was in(ramline) was recessed a little
the fore end flexes all over the place. is there any way of strengthening the forend?

* The magazine box should be flush with the bottom of the stock.
* The forend flexes all over the place because there is nothing n the stock that will ever keep it from flexing. You could mill out the forearm and epoxy in an aluminum rail to make it rigid.
* If you think it's bad now, just wait until you get the action in the stock and the stock finished and then find out you can't get your eyes lined up with your scope because the comb is too fat.

I know, hindsight is 20/20, but the injection-molded foam stocks or molded plastic stocks are not why people are switching to synthetic stocks. Try a fiberglass stock. Costs more, but you know the old saying . . .

bell and carlson markets it as being fiberglass . i bought it to replace an injection molded ramline stock. i dont have a milling machine. is there another way of going about it? dremel maybe? what thickness alum stock should i use? will epoxy holdit rigid

You can cut out the forearm groove with a Dremel if you have the time. Find a piece of extruded aluminum rail about 3/4" x 1/4" by about 10" long or so. Cut the groove about 3/8" deep, enough to fully engulf the rail. Go from the front of the mag up the forearm, laying the rail in the barrel channel. Then glass it in with Acraglas. Don't use cheap epoxy, use Acraglas only. That will stiffen up the forend without adding a lot of weight.

I bought a B&C stock for a 1903 sporter and mine is also a POS - and my LAST B&C stock. The rear TG screw hole was WAY off, like 3/8" out of alignment. I had to hog out a BIG hole and then pillar bed the rear screw.

No more B&C junk for me.

Walnut was chosen for a reason. Strength to weight ratio matters. Wood is good, well dried birch is better than the crappy plastic.
