Browning 16ga age & value

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a Browning a5 16ga shotgun and it has a strange sn# of x62071 which does'nt fit into the browning sn# chart. It has a little blueing problem on left side on top of the reciever hsg other wise in perfect condition. Also it says browning arms st. louis,Mo on top of barrel. Trying to get age and value. Can anyone help. Thanks

In my area....fixed choke, 16ga..../ you would be pretty lucky to get $ 500 for it ....

They just don't have much demand....most every used gun store in my area ...has all they want / and can't sell them.

Prices for 16 gauges seem to suffer from a few issues:
* A misunderstanding of the nature and prices of the "Sweet 16", as not every 16 ga was a "Sweet 16".

* Many were the earlier and less desirable field grade with 2-9/16" chambers.

* Many are pre-war 16 ga with solid ribs or plain barrels, and often described as "Sweet 16"s in order to get more money for them.

Having said all that, I will say this. In this area, A5 values in general (and 16 ga and 20 ga in particular) are stuck at about $350-$450, a pristine example may go for $500, but rarely. I saw a pretty clean A5 with a spare barrel (12 ga with 2 ribbed factory barrels and soft case) at a local shop for $375. Some folks still try asking as much as they were drawing a decade ago ($650-$850) but those guns usually sit for a long time as that market has gone soft on us, the older generation that revered the Auto-5 has pretty much passed away. So long story short, it is hard to give a value for a 16 ga without some pretty good pictures, but in my area a ball-park value would be $400 +/- $50.

.

Lemme see - the OP's A5 has a "bluing problem" on the top/left of the receiver, and unk bbl length/choke & whether the bbl's plain, matte rib or a vent rib.

Why I hesitate to give a value, sight unseen.

You guys are right ....if the bluing is real bad....it could be a parts only gun ...with a value of $ 200 at the most ...maybe.
