I came across an ad for a Belgian Browning Hi Power C-Series 9mm Pistol for sale at $875.00.

Taken from the ad:
"Belgian Browning Hi Power C-Series 9mm Pistol in excellent condition. The C-Series Hi Powers came after the T-Series, and long before they were assembled in Portugal. This is a full Belgian gun, made in 1972 with the original red-inside walnut grips. In excellent condition with full complete bluing with no wear. The grip a like new with only one slight mark.It come with one mag. Not much else to point out. My price is $875."

I'm not very familiar with older semi-automatic so I have no idea on the valuation of the gun.

I have also attached pictures of the gun from the ad as well.

A fair deal but not a great one. The early 1970s C series BHPs are excellent guns and are all Belgium production not that the Portugal production is a bad thing. The only real downside to them is the small sights and the small thumb safety. For many people they simply do not work.

They are not as prized as a T series by collectors but they are outstanding guns. My favorite BHP is a 1972 C which I customized.

I would offer $800 and see what they say.

It could be the result of the flash. but it looks like it has some sharp edge bluing loss to me, particularly near the muzzle end of the slide.

$875.00 is a bit steep for this gun IMHO. I think $600.00 would be a better price. It definitely is a quality piece, however, as guns from that era were extremely well made. If the gun is 100% as the seller says, then it might be worth that.

If you think you can't live without it and pay the $875.00, the market will most probably catch up with that value in a few years. I'd ask for more photos, taken in sunlight, though.

It is tough to find nice C series guns at that price range these days. They are out there but hard to find.

I paid $700 for this one earlier this year.

Comparing the two pictures, I think that is probably an artifact of directional light. I wouldn't hurt to make further inquiries, though.

That's a fair price for the gun pictured. I have a C-Series Hi-Power that I would never part with; not for anything close to $875 anyway. It's got the slickest slide of any gun I've ever handled - feels like it is riding on thousands of tiny ball bearings. The trigger is fantastic too. Mine's a little different as it has the target sights.

If you'd rather have a "shooter" grade Hi Power, there are some pretty good deals on Gunbroker right now for some Israeli surplus guns. I bought one not long ago from CDI Sales that was reparkerized but otherwise in excellent condition, for $410.00.

Here's a current example of one: Auction # 516718172

This one was just north of $500, less than 1 box of ammo digested.

This one had all new parts with new hard chrome frame, built by local BHP guru. $625

Those prices I see on GB seem high to me or maybe I just got lucky

madcratebuilder those prices are very good maybe a little on the lower side but you have to remember that all poodles are dogs not all dogs are poodles.

Your MKIII is one of the most common variants of the BHP available today. Standard sights with Pach grips which are not original to the gun. Still a solid deal but not the same thing as a C series. People pay a premium for older high gloss blued guns like the one the OP is looking at.

The other looks like a nicely done custom but customs almost never bring higher than standard prices. Sometimes they get less. The only exceptions are when it is a known national smith like Yost, Novak, Williams, Garthwaite etc...

Maybe it is just the pic but it looks like the rollmarks have been removed. For me that would be a deal killer. I looks like the proofmark is still on the frame near the trigger guard. This would be a red flag for me drive down the price for me. Again not saying it isn't a great gun but these are factors which make the price of those guns what they were IMHO.
