Beginner shooting tips...

To my surprise, I noted that my local sheriff's office opens their outdoor range from 2 to 3 days a month to the public for a modest charge.

They only allow rifles and shotguns, no handguns.

I know you have to bring your own weapom, ammo and eye/ear protection.

Could you hazard a guess what targets, if any you need to bring?

Also, even though I have been shooting handguns for 20+ years, would it be wise to take a private course somewhere before trying to shoot
a 12 guage 00 shotgun???

I would just bring any kind of stands you have made that can be moved easily and have replaceable targets. I would not bother with a class for a shotgun as long as you understand the function of the weapon.

Do find a clays, skeet and/or trap range near you and go shoot there.

Expertise comes with shooting lots.

Clay shooters shoot lots.

Shoot any, better, all of the games. Be sure and include doubles.

If you find it hard to shoot doubles where you have to find and obliterate two moving objects in about 2 second each, take comfort. After a few hundred, it gets lots easier.

And if some tacticool guy with his chest out sneers, ask him how good he is at obliterating 4" targets moving at up to 55 MPH on sundry trajectories.

BTW, 4" is about the widest part of the CNS.

If this LE range has a clay launcher, go for it.
