Been looking at S&W 340PD and 360PD

Anyone own one of these little beasts? The more I look at them the more I like them... small... lightweight. Is the recoil really that bad with .357? I mean, you may be able to stop someone with one shot, but with bad recoil, getting back on point for the second shot is crucial one would think. Just curious...

I've been thinking about these lately myself. Threw the 642 into the mix myself. Haven't gotten a chance to shoot them, probably won't for another few weeks (working graveyards at the moment). My experience with other revolvers is that the recoil can be a bear but is eventually overcome by practice and technique. I would imagine these little monsters probabl mimic the recoil off my 3" 1911 .45 but couldn't tell you for sure. With that said, I hope you'll shoot them before you buy and get back to us with your results. Also looking forward to hearing others' answers to this question.

i own a 342 and owened a 3'' .45 . the 342 is far worse in recoil than the .45 was. keep in mind the 342 is a .38, the kick as well as the slap on the hand seemed to be almost double that of the .45 . imo opion the 3" .45 was a pleasure to shoot.

I just recently bought a 340PD and I've only shot it once. I put about 50 rounds through it. I do plan to go out and get a lot more practice with it. As far as recoil, well........ with 357 mags she kicks like she's pissed at me. The open metal backstrap hurts (comes with houge rubber grips), my first mod will be a full wrap around grip to cover up backstrap. If I had to compare its recoil to another gun, I'd say it kicks like a snubby 44 Mag with semi-hot loads in it. But for CC, almost nothing beats its size, weight, and power. Its a great gun for its intended purpose.

I've had the 340SC, which is the silver colored model, for about a year and a half. It's my "always" gun because of it's weight. The "beast" kicks like a mule but carries very easily,
