Bedding Materials

I want to glass bed the action on a couple of rifles, want to try it myself. I've been looking at the Brownells catalog and of the three which is better for the rookie: Acraglas, Acraglas gel or Glasbed?
Glasbed looks to be the simplest but for the same price the Acraglas kit has enough to do two rifles.

If I use Acraglas, I go with the gel because it won't flow all over the place and leak out the screw holes so fast... the original acraglas also has many uses... The gel is for rookies and pros alike...

Start here with a search on glass bedding. Tons of knowledge...

The epoxy is not what matters most- it's the application.

Go with you simpliest most inexpensive action i.e. Mauser for your first bed... Nowdays, I get the kit and mix the whole batch so I get an even complete job on one try. Don't 'whip' the epoxy- you'll get bubbles and voids... You could be very skilled at bedding Mausers (sporters) in five jobs if you're a craftsman...

Tell us how it turns out...

Matter of fact a Mauser action was the first I had in mind.
I did the search, found some good stuff but no real answer to the comapirison between the three products.
Thanks!

No def. between Acragals, and Acragals gel, in the finish state. Gel is easyer to work with, 1 to 1 mix, and don't run as much. Never used Glassbed. Acragals the mix is 4 to 1, I think but don't rember for sure, don't use it that much. Hint, tape a bunch of newspappers around your stock first, makes cleanup a lot nicer.

Glass bedding

I have had great results with Devcon Plastic Steel. It can be had at any hardware store.
I have done 4 mausers with it with no problems. Some of these rifles have had a couple of thousand shots out of them.
Also glass bedded a mosin in a synthetic stock. Not sure how that will hold up yet still testing.
Make sure you use a release agent.I use johnson's paste wax.

Good luck Hen

You may want to give the Marine-tex a look. Good stuff and easy to work with. Brownells carrys it, it comes in white or gray.

Marine-Tex

I've done a bunch of .22s and a Springfield 03A3 sporter with Marine-Tex and it's great. Before it cures, you can wipe it off with water and a paper towel. The gray is almost black. It's boat hull repair stuff. In my experience, the only bedding stuff harder is JB Weld.

Regards.
