Because my Anti-Gunner Friends Won't Understand...

I was at the Shooting Sports Fair at Raahauge's this weekend, and I shot the S&W 500! :) :p :) And I'm a 118 pound girl - weird thing is - I thought my friend's 475 recoil was much more shocking. Must admit I was rather worried about getting a hammer dent in my forehead with the first shot. Now I'm thinking I'll get a 500 for shock value. :p

Cool.

I will say.. I'm not surprised you handled it well. People over blow the recoil on the big bores. While under normal circumstances you probably wouldn't blow through 200+ rounds of .500 mag, you could still handle it.

On a side note, a friend of mine thats 5'3 and somewhere around 120 can shoot full power .44 mags without flinching, she thinks it a blast ;)

Congrats!

I also find you get used to heavy loads. When I first started shooting a friend's .44 mag I thought it had heavy recoil, more so than was "enjoyable". Now I'm getting one. Go figure.

You post like that on this board and your PM folder will fill up in a hurry. I guarantee every unattached guy in a hundred mile radius will be contacting you. :D

Glad you had fun. I am a huge fan of big-bore horsepower myself.

They used to say that women should never attempt to shoot anything bigger than a 22 since they have more sensitive nervous systems !! I've met a few that dispell that myth !!

Though a 454 Casull shooter (and that's rifle velocity from a handgun!) i think 44 magnum is about reasonable to handle - 357 with say, Fedral Hydrosocks, can cause a lot o damage. Hardly any need for anything bigger! like the recent .500. But whatever, train a lot and get shots into the center ring at 30 yds. Disregard, IMHO, sexist comments. Remember always recoil comes after the shot; not during. Alll the best - P Knight
