I am about to purchase a new .45 pistol who out there really believes that I would be making a mistake if Idid not choose their favorite of the three I have narrowed it down to?
A.....Hk usp fullsize
B.....glock 21
C.....sig 220
Honest,I am verry comfortable with all three and shoot them all with about the same accuracy, may end up buying all of them someday but for now just one.
Iwill be using it for HD and target shooting and god forbid tshtf
I am well aware that many guns have cult like followings but for now.......JUST SHOOT STRAIGHT.....O.K.

THANKS
GOD BLESS AMERICA

P.S. EXPLAIN WHY

1. My personal advice to my students (I'm an N.R.A. instructor) is always go with the one you shoot well and are comfortable with.

2. Go with the one that is least complicated.

Since you say you like all, 3 and you shoot about the same with each, I'll give you my Glock lecture. Of the 3 it is simplest; it has the least number of parts, it's easy to maintain and most importantly if you need it for self-defense, you don't need an owners manual to figure out which lever to hit so you can shoot.

In a tough situation it isn't always easy to take a pistol off "safe" and aim and assess the threat etc. etc...

Glocks aren't the prettiest guns but they do 2 things exceptionally well (provided their loaded with live ammo), pull the trigger, they go BANG. Don't pull the trigger, they don't go BANG.

It works for me!:D

Speed,

I always choose a 1911 simply because I shoot them so well. However of the three I would agree with jmbg29 and go with the Glock. They are a very close second to the 1911 in my book for both accuracy and reliability. A wonderful piece assuming they fit your hand. My personal favorite is the Glock 30, a smaller version of the 21. If you're looking for a great .45 check it out. If you MUST have a full size gun then the 21 fills the bill.

JMBG is exactly right. I have a Glock 21 and in thousands of rounds it has yet to fail. Period. I also have a Sig220 and it is just as reliable as the Glock. I also have the full size USP and it too is reliable. It comes down to what you shoot best and feel most comfortable with.

Yes junior,

Glocks have their fair share of reliability problems. That's not to say they aren't a fantastic weapon. But contrary to popular belief, they're not made of pixie dust and wishes. But that can be said about any make of gun 1911's included. The only guns I've seen that are more reliable than 1911's and Glocks are the Ruger (yuck) P-Series pistols. They are big and ugly but damn if they won't digest anything. I'll still never own one though. :barf:

Which one fits your hand the best? Of the three that you listed I like the P220 the best. If your choice will be influenced by cost, the Glock would be my first choice, otherwise the 21 would be my second choice. The USP will always be my third choice because it costs more than the other two, without doing anything better than the other two. The P220 carries better (for me) and the 21 has preban magazines that are cheaper and easier to locate than the USP. It will come down to which one you like best.

Seriosly it all comes down to the comfort and accuracy you feel, and ergonomics for you in particular, and price range for you. Here is a copy of what I posted on another thread that compared the Hk USP45 and Sig P220. As you've said, I definitely know that I will own an Hk in the future and maybe soon, but I chose to get the Sig fist for my own reasons. Sig and Hk are simply the best handguns to me. As far as Glocks go, I have never had any good experiences with them though I have shot many of them many times. If you can't say anything nice, I guess don't say anything at all.

"It's funny how this comparison topic b/ these two great .45's, often come up both here and other forums, cause I was in the same exact dilemma a year ago, hehe. When I was ready to purchase my own .45 last year, I researched alot, asked around alot, and tried out .45's alot, including both the P220 and USP 45. The Glocks and others were weeded out very early in the competition for getting my investment. It came to a dead heat showdown b/ the Hk and Sig! the one thing I learned was to not trust opinions of others, esp if they don't own either of the guns. After meticulous questioning at ranges and shops, etc. It seemed to be an even favoritism to both the P220 and USP45. Then you find out that the guy who votes Hk had an Hk and perhaps only fired a Sig once, hehe. Well here is my personal opinon and not for you to take in because I said it. I found out for myself as well as many have said, that the Hk is very durable with its design and finish. I also find it a bit nicer looking than the Sig. But the Hk is a plastic polymer frame and am not too fond of plastic frames. But the Hk though plastic frame, was not too top heavy and though had more recoil than the P220, it recoiled pretty nice. The accuracy was about the same as the P220, but I found the Sig to be more accurate but not by much. Depends on distance. The farther you went, the more accurate th Sig became over the Hk. The Hk is also a bigger gun and good if you have HUMONGOUS hands. But I like the feel and comfort of the Sig much much better than the Hk. To sum it up, the better gun to me won, which is the Sig P220. I love it to this day and occasionally rent an Hk USP .45 to shoot alongside my P220 and I still feel good about my original decision of getting the P220 over the Hk. Sig is a bit more accurate with less recoil, with a more comfortable feel and hold. Sig has an aluminum alloy frame which I like over the polymer frame of the Hk. Both very reliable and neither jammed once for me or gave me problems. The Sig is simpler and easier to operate and cost a bit less than the Hk and even as you said, "if priced the same", I would still get the P220. It is just a damn good gun! The bottom line here is to go out and see it for yourself and compare the two like i did. Who knows, you may feel otherwise. Good luck." [Quoted]

My vote would go to the HK USP.
1. Reliable, durable & very accurate out of the box.
2. Most people end up gravitating towards the 1911 during their shooting experience. Even if you end up not liking them, you give them a try to figure out why they seem to be so popular. That said, the controls on the USP are very similar to the 1911.
3. I have owned all 3 you mentioned. Of the 3, I still own the USP 45. All 3 fit me well, but the USP shot the best.

The good news is, all 3 of your choices are top quality pieces of gear. Whichever you end up with, you won't be disappointed. For the record, my USP is more reliable than my Glock. I'm losing intereste rapidly with DA/SA autos that can't be carried condition 1. If it was me, as much as I hate to say it, I'd rule out the 220 for that reason.

I'll second GRD: You aren't going to make a mistake with ANY of those three, since you've basically listed the three best .45 ACP semi-autos available (IMO).

I'll also tag along with Warm Bore and recommend that you give the G30 a look, particularly if you've got concealed carry in the back of your mind.

I like and own Glocks, so my personal bias would steer you to the G21. I have one, and it's my favorite gun. It's the easiest to maintain, and is at least as reliable as anything else on the market. And, if you're willing to pony up the bucks you can get 13-round mags for the G21. Can't say that about the other two, though the argument could be made that there's not a huge difference between 10 and 13 rounds.

Since they all work for you, I'd be leaning toward the Glock. With the difference in cost between it and the other two you'll save about half the cost (or maybe more, depending on your market) of a standard capacity mag.

I myself would pick a Glock or 1911. I had a G21 and traded it for something else only because it was just a tad to big for my hands. But the G30 works very well for me.

I would suggest if you actually shoot all 3 equally well, to consider which gives you the most consistent grip. Also which is easier for you to manipulate for clearance drills, etc.

Finally if they are all still even pick the cheapest one.

This is a tough call. All are very good guns. All have good feel for the shooter and all are shot equally well.
Hmmm. Without any brand loyalty or biased opinion and hype...
I'ld go with the either the Sig or the HK in this one due to the Decock feature you have on the Sig and the option to have it on the HK depending upon variant.
And of these two?

Man. Thats a coin toss. Probably the SIG P220 in this case... Its good right out of the box where the HK begs for extras.

In addition to shooting them, you should try all the other manipulations - loading, unloading, reloading and malfunction clearances with each. If any one (gun, that is) doesn't agree with you, you'll know it.

Look at the small things. Which sights do you like best? Which one points best for you? Which one's controls are located to your liking?

Do you like finely-engineered, precision mechanisms (SIG) or do you appreciate the beauty of simpicity (Glock)?

Ha! Ha! Oh man, we are no help to you, are we? Looks like every other post is Sig, then Hk, then Glock. But this was expected of course, since everyone here is a gun addict. As been said ALOT, all three would be a good choice, just think it over really well on what features you are looking for, and then price and last but not least, shoot all three and make hard but has to be final decision that only YOU can make.  :(

You know if it was me.. (I'd pick a 1911)

However, this is you. What IS different to me on all these is the ergonomics. That Glock 21 feels like BRICK in my hand compared to a 17. Its the simplest to use, but since the post ban 10 rounders are a pain to load with 10, does the size of the gun justify a 9 shot mag?

The USP has a really neat checkered plastic front strap, for some. To me its annoying. Its also a BIG gun. I have a pal skinnier than me who uses a CCW fullsize USP, go figure. I like the fact that you CAN shoot it cocked and locked, as opposed to DA/SA. Again pricy pre ban mags, does the size justify a ten round mag? Comes in stainless, which is good.

SIG 220.. best fit in my hand. Smaller overall, still can hold 9 rounds 8+1. Even though I dislike DA/SA if I was looking for a CCW pistol I'd pick the Sig. It also comes in stainless, I like that. Bob the hammer, call it good.

Sig.

You would not go wrong with any of the three on your list. Personally, I find the GLOCK to have the least muzzle flip and the HK to have the lowest recoil. The SIG probably has a lower recoil due to its weight, but it doesn't feel tamer than the HK to me. I like SIGs, but my least favorite SIGs are in .45 Auto. HK looks to be the strongest of the bunch. GLOCK wins in capacity and availability of 13-rounders.
