The nuts are coming out of the woodwork lately here in soCal, but there seems to be a person or a group of people who seem to be setting up an ambush situation and I'd like to alert you all to the technique.
My LEO friends said that they believe there is a pattern where around midnight the "bait" either calls out in a low tone or whistles near the bedroom window or wherever they can to get your attention. Homeowner goes outside of his house to check out the "strange" sound...bang! falls into their trap!
One or two shooters laying in wait within gun range...Homeowner usually silhouetted (?) by a street light or light clothes or the lights in a house; too good a target.
Hope it doesn't happen in your area, still, stay safe out there.
