BD present for my son

He turns 14 tomorrow. He gets a brand new Browning 12g semi-auto shotgun, and a case of trap shells for it. Very nice gun. I asked my wife (who owns a Gold Cup .45) why everyone ELSE has nicer guns than *I* do, when I'm the one who buys them all... (what's wrong with this picture?)

Anyway, a new member of the Gun Culture comes of age.

Too bad his generation may well be the last.

Dennis:

My father is surprisingly anti-gun for a retired Army NCO. We've had a troubled relationship in part because his father died when he was very young. As I've gotten older things have improved.

Anyway, the Daisy air rifle I received for my 12th birthday was the source of a major bonding experience.

I'm sure your son will cherish the gift, and the values it embodies.

I'm grateful every day I still have my father, the air rifle, and the memory...

Dennis,

Good for you and your son! The best present I've ever received was a deer rifle my dad custom built for me when I was 11 years old.

Here's a suggestion: Let him bring a friend shooting (with parent's permission of course). Teach them to love and respect firearms, and hopefully they can pass this along to their kids.

Nice .... very nice.

My Dad's still alive, but I have his old .22 single shot stored in my gun cabinet. (Yes, I'm licensed for it if any cops are reading this.)

I occasionally take it out and wipe it over. It brings back memories that I'm sure would otherwise be forgotten of when Dad and i were both younger.

Your boy's going to love it.

Best

Dennis,
A very nice present for your son. My dad gave me a single shot .22 when I turned 14. Since I have no children myself, I gave it to my brother to pass on to his sons so it will stay in the family; needs to go from one generation to another. Here's to tradition!

When I was 12 my Dad gave me a Remington 870 Wingmaster just like his (only about 30 years newer). I still have that gun, and will always have that gun. It killed many squirrles, rabbits, doves, and pheasants. When my daughter gets old enough, she too will get her own personal guns. Thats just how it should be. Too bad she is only 3 weeks old, I'm going to have to wait a while.

Glad you are able to continue the tradition Dennis.

Dennis, can I be your son for a while? ;)
Guess not. Oh, well. That's awesome! I can't wait till my son is old enough for his first rifle. He'll probably get a BB Gun first, but the rifle will be so cool!
Have fun with your son. I think that's great! :) :) :) :)

My Dad never did get into firearms much. He did deer hunt a little back when I was a teenager. But Grandad..... About 20 years ago.. Pop gave me three... His father's side-by-side 12 ga. His Remington TargetMaster .22 single shot... and his Windchester Model 94 30-30. All three were working guns. He had used them all in his younger days. Since passing them on, I did the same. Dropped several ducks with the 12 ga before sending it to permanent retirement. The little .22 has taken its share of cottentails and jack rabbits. It also serverd as the trainer for my twin boys as their first rifle on the range. And knowing Pop, Granny, Dad and I all took deer with the Winchester something I treasure. All three of these pieces of family history are stored with love and fond memories in the safe.... Maybe in 20 years my boys will treasure them the same. :)

Our forefathers guaranteed us this right to enjoy our firearms history. Today we honor that right.. the right of Liberty.

Happy 4th my friends....

Bubba
