So my mother brought me a knife and a bayonet that belonged to my grandfather. I was curious if anyone might know to what rifle this was designed to be affixed. I know about less than zero in regards to this sort of thing. Thanks in advance for any info.

These are the only markings I have noticed.

Swedish Mauser bayonet, I think about 1915.

Clean the gunk off, don't sand it or polish it, use a dab of oil on the catches and springs to free it up if it needs it.

Thanks for the info.

I wouldn't dream of sanding or polishing anything on this one, though I understand things like that need to be pointed out for the uninitiated. Heck, I got nervous when you mentioned cleaning. While the scabbard is damaged, I would hate to screw anything up on this.

By cleaning, I mean rubbing with a gun cloth, and removing dirt and grease with a swab or old toothbrush. Sounds like you're already up on that.
