Battlefield Earth

OK, so this probably wasn't the best science fiction movie ever made. But, I thought it was reasonably entertaining.

Now, the thing I really noticed was the positive message about freedom, and having the proper weapons to back it up.

Anyone else enjoy the message in this movie?

Regards from AZ

ps - I'm pretty 'easy' ... I'll give a movie 5 out of 10 if the popcorn and Pepsi are good, the theater's comfortable and the company is right. ;)

Ouch!

I worked at the theater so was able to see the movie for free. At the end I was still demanding money back. :)

How many hours did they have to learn how to fly and fight the AV8 Harrier?

I know, I know, "Only a movie." It was a good laugh.

Is John Travolting ashamed of this recent effort? Nah, he can afford to do anything, good or bad.

Haven't seen the movie yet, hoping to later today, but the book is great if long! My dog-eared paperback is over 1000 pages long.
My understanding is that the movie only encompasses a portion of the book.

Havn't seen it, wanna see it. A bad science fiction movie is better than the best chick flick.

Starship Troopers was another under rated SF movie I liked.

Shok

The movie ends shortly after the liberation of Earth. There's supposed to be a sequel which finishes up the book.

I loved the book but thought the movie was an absolute suck fest! The only resemblance to the book was in the general plot, and the names of the characters. The rest was completely screwed over.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen, topped only by, perhaps "Kill Line". Every Sci-Fi cliche you can think of was incorporated.

Try to see 'Nightfall' sometime ... story by Isaac Asimov. Subtitled 'the greatest science fictio story ever told'. It might have been the 'greatest science fiction story ever told', but it was also the most boring science fiction movie ever made. ;)

After that movie, everything else looks like Academy Award material ... ;)

Nightfall (the book) rocked, although it was damn depressing at some points, like when Sheerin... well, no spoilers. :p

Nightfall (the movie) blew syphilitic goats. That had to be the worst SF flick adaptation EVER.

Obligatory Firearms Content: those needlers were too cool. Where can I get one? :D

Mystery Science Theater 3000 would make this its worst movie of the year.

However, I thought that it made a great comedy!!

I guess the brains of Scientology aren't that superior afterall. :) :)

Years ago, I saw a cartoon in the Los Angeles Times (Pravda West), in which a man is standing outside a theatre box office booth, pointing a pistol at the ticket seller inside the booth. He says, "This movie is so bad, I want EVERYONE'S money back!"

Still laugh when I see movies like that. J.B.

SOLDIER with Kurt Russell, not much talking but a lot of ass kicking. A badass fighting even bigger badasses. Good SF flick, got the movie on DVD. Hey gollywood, give us more like that, forget the Scientology crap-ola. :D

Hank,
You didn't like the wiZARDofOZ ? I guess it has been a lot of years since I saw it, but I kind of remember thinking it was okay.

Hey, Zardoz rocks. It's with Sean Connery, how could it suck?

Battlefield Earth is a Scientologist project. Travolta and Cruise (among others) are die hard Scientologist so they work for free. I thought the novel was really bad. No wonder L. Ron Hubard turned to writing shoddy self help books. I couldn't believe it when Travolta said Battlefield Earth was the most important book of the last century. Like Howard Stern said, "that Travolta is a real genuis."

So many pistols, so little money.

Haven't seen Battleship yet, ( intend to ) Haven't seen Zardoz Have seen Nightfall. Nightfall, the short story, is perhaps the definitive of the genre. Nightfall the movie was so bad that I apologized to my daughter for taking her to see it! Movie opened 1st wk in nov, was gone in 2nd wk. Bad timing, Should have opened 2 1/2 wks later, a turkey that big would have fed all the homeless and unemployed in Kal.

What spoiled Battlefield Earth for me was the book... read it 15 years ago and loved the epic story... the movie made me question the meaning of the word epic.
