Bass Pro Shops & handguns

I was in my local Bass Pro Shop store after Christmas and noticed a "Year-End Firearm Clearance" in progress. It appeared that the handgun cases were virtually empty but no shortage of long guns. Recently I've heard that Bass Pro Shops was discontinuing the sale of handguns at most, if not all stores. When I called Bass Pro Shops to inquire, I was told that management has neither confirmed nor denied discontinuance of sale. Does anyone have any information on this subject?

I noticed the same thing and got the same response at the store in Michigan. Interesting.

I believe I read this on Glock Talk. Anyway, Post read that Bass Pro was discontinueing sales of handguns with a 4" barrel or less.

Not suprising...

I called to inquire about range policies, since I heard they let you shoot high powered rifles. The guy I talked to was very polite and apologetic when he informed me that you could shoot anything EXCEPT those assault weapons! Blaze away with your 10/22 or BAR, but leave that AR15 at home Sonny Jim!

Guys,

I stopped into the BASS PRO SHOPS Main Showroom Store here in Springfield Missouri this morning (in case you didn't know, Springfield MO is where Bass Pro Shop's corporate Headquarters is located). When I entered the hunting & firearms department I immediately noticed that EVERY single handgun in the display cases had a red "sale" tag and a lowered price. Already suspecting the reason for this, I asked 3 different sales people in the firarms dept. if the rumor was true that Bass Pro was discontinuing the sale of handguns. They all answered in the affirmative. When the ones in the cases were gone, there would be no more.......

I for one am extremely disappointed that one of the largest sporting goods distributors in the US is caving in to anti gun pressure.

Best to all,
Swampy

The Sports Authority is dumping most of their guns also, the handguns are already gone in my area stores. I'm sure they are going to phase out the long guns also (why wouldn't they) at some future point. I don't know, maybe this is old news-but I noticed this like 3 weeks ago.

Are their sales prices a good deal??? It stinks that they will run and cower in fear but I may as well try to take advantage of it.

Larry_Minn,

Re sale prices: Most of the ones I saw were marked down $15-$25. A buck is a buck sure enough, but this paltry markdown was not something that really sparked me to go on a buying binge......

Guys & Gals:

The answer for us who despise the current trend of relegating the Bill of Rights to the bill of needs is simple: don't buy from Bass Pro Shop for anything-----period------not even a bag of popcorn!

Support those who support us even if it means paying more. There is no grey area on this.

Other PC outlets include Academy Sports and Wal Mart. If you have an Oshman's USA, they will match lower prices within reason and they are not playing these Mickey Mouse games-------so far.

Never forget that a business is in business to make a profit. The disappearance of handguns may have nothing to do with being PC.

Gunslinger and I stopped in Bass Pro Shops in Springfield the other day when I was out looking for my first gun, I wanted to see the Taurus 92 in stainless and blued so I could decide which one I wanted, so when we looked and didn't see any automatics we asked the salesperson behind the counter and he told us they were no longer to sell automatics because of the new statue on gun laws. I don't understand they have all the other single action that can do damage but no automatics. This will be my last trip to Bass Pro Shops. This has only happened in the past two months because we was in there not over two months ago and they had a full line of automatics then. They also have the biggest selection of S & W than anywhere else.

Sports Authority in my area(N. VA) dropped their guns last year. It's Galyans for me from now on.

The new Bass Pro Shop that opened in the Houston area has never sold handguns as far as I know. Their prices are too high on everything anyhow.

Some of you may have seen my post, but I've shot at the Bass Pro Shops range in Broward County, FL (Fort Lauderdale) several times. I had just gotten my new Carbon-15 (see www.c-15.com), and called ahead to see if I could shoot it. They said sure.

So I drove 40 minutes from Miami to get there, and they told me I couldn't shoot it. I told them that the guy on the phone specifically told me the range can handle .223 and my gun, in particular. They said that it wasn't the caliber, but the fact that the gun was an "assault weapon", and that they basically don't condone that type of thing. They said because it had a flash suppressor, I couldn't shoot it; I pulled off the flash suppressor but they weren't satisfied. They said because it had a greater than 10 round clip it was illegal; whereupon I explaind that my Beretta (which I had with me and they had OK'd to shoot) had 15 rounds, as did the 1 remaining 5906 in their display) but they didn't care. They explained that they only condone "target" and "hunting" weapons.

Well, I guess it's okay to kill an innocent duck (no offense to the hunters out there) but not to shoot someone who's robbing your house. Makes sense, right?

Anyway, I argued about various issues with the guy for 20 minutes. We eventually shot my other guns at the range for free, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. It may be a really nice facility, but I'm not going back.

branrot - It's obvious that the Political Correctness Nazis have gotten to Bass Pro Shops. When I'm in the area, I still like to go in and look around the Auburn Hills, MI store, I love the ambiance. I still haven't been able to bring myself to buy anything since they dropped double action revolvers and semi-automatic pistols in January. Unfortunately, by conforming to the wishes of the Socialists, Bass Pro Shops has subtly become part of the campaign to infringe the rights of American citizens. I find that I cannot support them for that reason.

I have always bought ammo from the sports authority here in glen burnie MD until a few weeks ago i noticed they didnt have any more hanguns in their cases. Every gun case was filled with BB guns, knives and paintball supplies. I asked the salesman why and he said they stopped selling handguns because the heat was too high(politically)

Whats funny is, they still sell ammo. I dont understand how selling a hangun which has a 7 day waiting period is any more dangerous than selling ammo to a criminal that already has a gun !!!!!

Ive added yet another establishment to my "dont buy from" list. Which is a shame because they have the cheapest ammo around. Ohh well, I sleep better at night knowing Im supporting a business or company that supports me and my rights, even if it costs me a few bucks more its a small price to pay for our rights.

Nope no handguns any more... I live in Springfield and shoot at the handgun range at BPS fairly frequently. No "assault weapons" allowed in the rifle tube, no handguns not specifically for hunting or target shooting. They're going PC.
