Some of you may have seen my post, but I've shot at the Bass Pro Shops range in Broward County, FL (Fort Lauderdale) several times. I had just gotten my new Carbon-15 (see
www.c-15.com), and called ahead to see if I could shoot it. They said sure.
So I drove 40 minutes from Miami to get there, and they told me I couldn't shoot it. I told them that the guy on the phone specifically told me the range can handle .223 and my gun, in particular. They said that it wasn't the caliber, but the fact that the gun was an "assault weapon", and that they basically don't condone that type of thing. They said because it had a flash suppressor, I couldn't shoot it; I pulled off the flash suppressor but they weren't satisfied. They said because it had a greater than 10 round clip it was illegal; whereupon I explaind that my Beretta (which I had with me and they had OK'd to shoot) had 15 rounds, as did the 1 remaining 5906 in their display) but they didn't care. They explained that they only condone "target" and "hunting" weapons.
Well, I guess it's okay to kill an innocent duck (no offense to the hunters out there) but not to shoot someone who's robbing your house. Makes sense, right?
Anyway, I argued about various issues with the guy for 20 minutes. We eventually shot my other guns at the range for free, but it left a bad taste in my mouth. It may be a really nice facility, but I'm not going back.
