Basic value on Black powder stuff

Alright I have just ran across a ton of blackpowder stuff (nipples, powder measures, primer feeders ,lead bullets ect) but there is a problem of that I don't use blackpowder guns (have but don't use) Sooooo......what should I bother trying to sell it or is any of this stuff worth messing with.

I can't list much tonight but I did see some Thompson primer feeders and some buffalo brand bullets.

Actually, it would depend on how much a "ton" is.
If there is enough you could set up a table at an ml event and sell the stuff for profit.
Since you don't use it and if you do not have an outlet to sell it has zip value for you.

All of this is new stuff that came out of a gunstore that had its inventory liquidated. I bought one milk crate worth of stuff for the 300 bullets of hornandy .45 JHP.:D I am not at the house right now but I do know there is probably 50lb of lead bullets,Red hot Nipples and some other junk I will list later.

Would it be possible for you to explain why?
Waiting on madcratebuilder to respond to this but have to agree with him. Note that he didn't say there wasn't any value, only that it might not be worth messing with. Here is why I agree, in part; Depending on what the propellant is, it might not have a good shelf life. I have had new replacement propellant go bad. Even though I personally do not care for BP, it lasts a long time when comapred to my other "stuff". I have found that the 209s have a good shelf life or good enough to ignite my in-lines. However, I pretty much stick to #11's or Muskets. Another point is shipping hazzards and cost associated with that adventure. However, you could sell the propellant locally and give someone a good deal or you could even donate it and deduct from your taxes. If you sell it to the wrong person, it might cause you problems, you did not expect.

Now for the other accessories, definitely worth your time to post them on here and let your buddies have first crack at them. Don't know if you have noticed, but there are a lot of new guys coming in here, looking for this "stuff". Definitely worth your time and you'll get your money back and some. ... ;)

Even though your picture is not very good, I can see that most of this material is current and if you go on line on the manufacturer, you can get currenty pricing that will assist you in determining your asking price. For example, I see a bunch ot TC stuff and you can get pricing from them. Also go to Traditiions, October Country and Track of the Wolf. The Possibles Shop is another good one and there are litterally hundreds of additional sites. Another good place is Dixie Gun Works.

I would break it into bite sized lots and sell it on eBay

The size of the eBay buying market for black powder items is large enough to include many who don't bother to check prices. They just bid until they win. Consequently, the stuff will likely fetch a higher price on eBay than trying to sell it local, or moving it on Gunbroker.

Make sure to check the cost for shipping. Flat rate boxes are good for lead bullets. They are small and even though they are heavy, they do not exceed the 70 pound max.

I didn't see anything in the photo that is not sellable within eBay guidelines.

I do understand that you have to be willing to pinch your nose as you access eBay but I think this would be your best bet.

If you don't know the value of something, you can get a good idea from eBay. The CVA 1400 flask generally goes new for between 14.00 and 17.00. Used ones on ebay fetch 10.00 to 13.00 with five bucks in prioirty shipping. eBay used to be good for the buyer but there are too many idiots for that to be true much any more.

Pahoo has a good point, that you could take the time to check individual values on the sites for the companies that originally sold the merchandise. Trouble is, these items almost have to be considered used and you may not know what the item is worth when it is used. If you sell it on eBay the buyers will tell you what it is worth with their bids. I would start an auction off with a start price that is about one third of the new prices for the items in the lot as long as you are happy getting one third of new prices. (Always a chance no one is interested. Not likely but it happens.)

Just a casual scan of the lot looks like it is worth about 400 bucks give or take.

Might be your area has a local "trading post" type paper. The one here in the Lehigh Valley (eastern PA) is free, and the classified ads are free, too. Rather than go on Ebay, I thought I'd try the paper first. I sold five single-shot shotguns through our paper, priced right (needed money, not a dealer). The first day the paper was out, I had three calls, and the first took all of them, face-to-face. No cash outlay, no hassles, no wait. The only other thing I had to do was call the 2nd and 3rd (and a couple of later) buyers back and tell them the guns were sold.
Your stuff should sell quickly in a similar venue if you price it right.
Sometimes we forget there are other ways than the internet to sell our stuff.

The only one around here is the dang pay for paper :( I wish I would have found this stuff last week so I could have gotten a table at the gunshow.

Updated two post back

Used powder and primers are not worth messing with

Would it be possible for you to explain why?

Aside from any legal issues of selling black powder and percussion caps, would you buy those items used not knowing the age or storage conditions they have seen? Heated dry storage is good, bubba's outdoor garden shed with the leaky roof is not so good.

As far as all the small packaged parts you could try evil bay, but it's already loaded with that kind of stuff and not many bidders. Gunbroker is even worse. A local gun show would be the best bet IMHO. Be prepared to sit on it for a period of time.

Or.....

....take it to a gunshop and sell the whole mess.

You would not likely get much for it thataway, but at least it would not sit so long. Might talk the owner into a trade.
