I'm looking for rings and base for my Rem 700 sps varmint 204 and have a bushnell 4200 scope 3-9x40mm.

I've been looking at burris signature rings (Zee rings[weaver style])

and base (XTB Weaver-style Solid Steel Bases)

I am looking for good quality and reliability not cheap and will do the job! But not gold plated either!

Am i on the right track or can advise me on somthing else?

Also which hight rings are needed for th 40mm scope to clear the barrel?

Thanks for your time!

Hey Boomer,
I have a similar setup; remington 700 sps tac 308 with a bushnell 3200 10x40. I used an EGW picatiny rail, and burris extreme LOW rings. I have about 3/8" clearance between barrel and objective. Others have said that for any 40mm scope, low rings are enough. I guess my limited experience backs this up. Gofer it!

Medium rings of almost any brand should work. Burris and Warne are my personal favorites, especially the Burris XTRs for their long mounting surface area.

I tend to buy a matched base/rings of the same brand. I've had a few mismatches using say Leupold Rifleman rings with Weaver brand 2pc bases.
They weren't very detectable till I found that I had problems sighting in (excessive windage or elevation adjustments required).

The DNZ/Game Reaper ringmount combos are supposed to be pretty good.

I had a set of Burris XTR rings and as I was tightening them the screws were pulling down through the top half of the ring. The part inside the hole where the bottom of the screw rests. I think I may have just got hold of a bad set. Figured it was a manufacturing flaw just in that set. I was not over tightening them either. The shop I got them at didn't have any more, so I switched for a set of Weaver tactical whick look a lot like the Burris only they have the slots in the top. Didn't like the fact that dirt would sit down inside the grooves but it was all the shop had and I was going to the range the next day. They were $32 and haven't had any trouble. They sit on a Warne picatinny solid rail bolted to my Remy 700 SPS Tactical .308.
