Barsto service and delivery

I have read plenty about the excellent quality and fit (not to mention the high price) of Bar Sto barrels. I am interested in getting one, but have also heard some comments about slow delivery and slow customer service. Any experiences or comments?

I have bought three barrels from Bar-Sto in the past, and I have been lucky enough that only one had to be ordered (the other two were is stock and shipped promptly to me). The ordering process went this way for me... I told them over the phone what I was looking for. Bar-Sto told me the estimated time that the barrels would go back into production, and stated that they would send me a letter (basically a wait list notification) to re-confirm if I still wanted the barrel when it was available again. Everything actually happened the way it was supposed to - estimated dates, letter, etc... So I had no problems... Note, however, that all of the barrels I buy are the match target, i.e. not the drop in barrels. I have heard of quite a few problems with the drop in barrels and having to send the slide to Bar-Sto for fitting, etc., etc... In the end, I'v been pleased with the products and haven't had to deal with their Customer Service for product problems...

I bought a drop-in Bar-Sto online for my Glock 22 a couple of years ago. Got it within a couple of weeks, it dropped right in and works perfectly. It is much tighter than the stock barrel, and doesn't eject unfired cartridges. You have to thumb those out. But the chamber now has more support and I no longer have nightmares about Kbs.

Bar-Sto makes fabulous barrels, but they aren't McDonalds.

The wait is well worth it.

Weshoot2:

I have no doubts they are excellent barrels. My question is: McDonald's feeds you in minutes, your favorite restaurant in an hour. Would you wait a week for a meal, because it is prepared by the best chef in the world????

I ordered a .357SIG drop in barrel for a Glock 22 from BarSto two years ago,and was told it would be 4-6 weeks. I received the barrel in 3 weeks, it was 100% reliable with no fitting, and was generally more accurate than the original barrel.

I know of shooters who are very happy with their Barsto barrels after a long long wait.
I got my HK barrels from Larry at www.ccfa.com.
I think he has barrels every bit as good.
check him out!!!
Always good to have more than 1 source when
buying anything.

Dakodakid,

What is CCFA's delivery time? Their HK O-ring barrels look outstanding. I may wait for their USPc line coming out soon. Thanks for the pointer.

Call Larry and he can give you more details..

My USP barrel arrived about a week after I talked to him...
The barrel dropped right in and was more accurate than my original barrel..

Have a Bar-Sto in my 1911. Perfect.

Have a Nowlin in my 9x19 EAA (hard-fit by Bob Cogan / AP&W). Perfect.

Had a Jarvis hard-fit by Jarvis in a M20. Sold gun (but great barrel!).

All other barrels (EAA factory match) I fit.
Almost perfect.

Speaking of AP&W, can they re-parkerize my Glock slide? If not, I'll have it E-nickled instead (probably $$$). I live about 2 minutes from their shop.

Also, I forgot their site addy. Could someone post it?

Thanks.

I really hope they'll accept walk-ins so I don't have to ship it only a mile.

Bar-Sto barrels are indeed worth the wait. Gotta remember they are a very small company making one of the finest barrels available. I've had em in several 1911s and 2 Glocks and all have been outstanding in every way.

A quick follow-up question,

CCFA has instructions on fitting their barrels with a medium arkansas stone, and a fine grit stone. Sounds like a doable thing even for a non-armorer. Has anyone done their own fitting for a semi-dropin barrel? How easy is it?

I just placed an order with Brownells. Even they are waiting for BarSto to deliver. ;) The projected delivery date had been August. If it wasn't such an odd-request (5" .38 Super w/ Clark ramp), I'd have switched to another manufacturer.

Curuzer,

I have fit numerous barrels.

Extreme patience is required, and the complete understanding of this specific concept: "You can always take more OFF, but you can't PUT IT BACK".

Update: I actually posted this message after ordering a barrel from Bar-Sto, wondering whether I would get it within a reasonable amount of time. I am happy to report that my barrel ordered on 10/2 (priority mail) arrived yesterday 10/9. I would say a one week delivery time from the order date is much better than I expected. Since the barrel was in stock, one would expect even quicker delivery...but I'm not complaining. Still haven't had a chance to see if it will drop-in or will need fitting. I will keep you posted.
