Barrett MRAD

As someone who appreciates a good rifle, when I recently started learning more about the Barrett MRAD it struck me what a very clever weapon this is. The Barrett sales video tells all:

It can be argued that today's sniper is in love with the .338 Lapua Magnum and when the British Army adopted the Accuracy International AWM .338 as its new Sniper Rifle (this was some 7 years ago), my heart sang because I had fired this beast and I loved it. It was a rifle that you knew something meaningful was on the way to the enemy when you squeezed the trigger and it taught you to respect eye relief distance, or you would get a nasty 'dent' above your eyebrow.

The thing I love about the MRAD is the ability to switch between calibres at user level; so snipers can train with 7.62mm and .338. It enables them to decide the right tool for the right range envelope.

I think the British Army has now entirely switched over to .338 and in 2008 improved the package on their rifles. I believe the US military was erring towards .300 Win Mag, until they saw how good the .338 was and now it's in demand on that side of the pond too.

Does anyone know who is buying the MRAD? I read an article that it was being designed to compete for a US Special Forces contract; anyone over there heard anything about it?
