SO..what do you guys think about the barrett m82a1?.. i want one real bad .. one day real soon, if i dont excersize my 2nd amendment and purchase one, i may not get the chance to .. the cheapest i found one for was $6,800... i believe that is without the swarovski scope ( which i would have to have, one way or another ) .. i heard they are trying to reclassify .50 firearms, specificaly this one to the ' full auto machine gun ' reclassification .. that means .. in ny ... i wouldnt have the opportunity to purchase one if i wanted to .. that means i might just have to move real fast and pick one up..
the commie bastards already have passed a law stating no more selling military surplus .50 cal ammo to civilians anymore .. how stupid is that ..   argh .... anyway .. your opinions about the gun ?.. www.barrettrifles.com
tell me what you think ...

i used it in sotic. it shots well and is over priced if you want a 50 just for the sake of having one check out the ar50 it is not simi auto but is a well built rifle and more accurate than the m-82:)

What Tom said......and.....if you are goin to try drivin tacks with a .50 rifle, the surplus machingun ammo won't do as well as match rifle ammo. That'll hurt your wallett.

Have you looked into 50 BMG uppers for you AR? They are cheaper and legal to buy w/o an FFL.They are single shot uppers though.

My experience with the M82A1 with the scope has been outstanding!! It's clearly the most outstanding weapon I've ever shot, and it is a tack driver. Yes, it costs a lot, but you get what you pay for.

ahhh.. but you are -missing the point- my friends .. its a BARRETT M-8-2-a-1.. were not talking about some cheap ar .50 cal upper add on that you can play around with on your ar lower .. we are talking about the finest and only semi automatic 10 round mag fed, .50 cal, barrel recoil, b@LLZ to the wall firearm made to date ... !!! this is the most powerful, full feature, firearm any civilian can purchase in this beautiful country !... i dunno about you guys, but if one day i get the money .. im gettin one .. then agian .. i say that about all of the firearms on my wish list .. :D

I agree.....the 82A1 has a coolness factor to it. But $3000 more than a Model 99? Not worth it in my book. A semi-auto .50 is pretty damn useless (round these parts anyway). But hey......it aint MY money!

Good Luck.

The Barrett "Light Fifty" Model 82A1 is the most popular 0.50 caliber rifle in the world was originally designed for extreme long range sniping (over 1000 meters). However, its semi auto mechanism combined with mediocre human engineering and the lack of proper 0.50 match grade ammunition contributed to the fact that the M82A1 is a rather low accuracy rifle.

Therefore, the weapon's destination was switch from sniping to Hard Target Interdiction (HTI), hence shooting at Armored Personal Carrier (APC), cars, through walls, etc.

Sporadic samples of the rifle entered service in the Israeli Defense Force (IDF) in the early 1990's and were used primarily by the IDF Combat Engineering Corps Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit - YACHSAP - to blow up charges at a safe distance. In 1995-1996 the M82A1 entered the IDF Special Forces (SF) in mass numbers for HTI applications. In 1997, in an effort to improve the poor marksmanship skills and sharpshooting capability of the IDF Infantry Corps, the weapon entered all regular infantry-oriented units as a company level fire support weapon.

Currently the upgraded version of the M82A1 - the M82A1M - is entering service in the IDF SF units. The M82A1M features several improvements over the M82A1, including a better agronomical stock, a M1913 Picatinny rail integrated into the receiver and an assisting monopod in the under the butt stock.

Well, I only get MOA accuracy from my 82A1, not sub-MOA with the cheap surplus ammo. I agree that the semi-auto mechanism makes it inherently less accurate in theory than a bolt or single-shot lock-up, but it's an unbelievable piece of equipment. I'd like to know how many folks have actually been able to compare an 82A1 side-by-side with any other 50? I see a lot of inferences above, but let's face it - no one goes out and puts a couple hundred rounds through these guns in an afternoon. For me, it was worth every penny including the scope. I have no other gun that's even close.
