Barrels bending without proper storage.

I have this paranoia that if I don't store my guns properly the barrels will bend and they'll be rendered inaccurate. My mother in law told me a story of how her father used to keep his rifles under his bed and after years of doing so gravity caused the barrels to slightly bend and they were very inaccurate.

Is there any real cause for concern or am I just a guy obsessing about his guns?

I've heard of wooden stocks allowing actions to droop over time but I've never heard of steel barrels deforming from the pressure of gravity alone.

Gravity will not bend a gun barrel. if it did look at all the pipes in buildings. The gun barrels are usually better quality than ordinary pipes.

Gravity will not bend a barrel unless it's heated to temperatures that would likely ruin the rifle anyway. According to your mother in law, all my guitar necks should be warped from gravity too, as well as my car, because they're in gravity every day too. That pesky gravity, bending all my stuff!
Her father's guns were probably inaccurate from the bore not being taken care of and they likely suffered from pitting and rust, if you ask me. (Not seeing the guns obviously, it's hard to say what really happened)
It easily could've been many factors that she overlooked, including a damaged crown, or maybe the rifles were inaccurate to start with.

Maybe your wife's grand parents had been bouncing around in that bed hard enough and long enough to damage those poor long guns stored underneath. Maybe?

I think Grandma was talking in metaphor - over the years time and gravity caused Grandpa's barrel to droop and the system not to function well.
