Barrel wear on SIG P239 in .357Sig

I noticed while cleaning my 239 that there is a lot of wear on the top and bottom of the barrel. Is this normal? Should it contact the slide on the top and the bottom?
Any help would be appreciated.

Can you tell us a little more about what the
wear looks like? Is it a bunch of rings
with heaviest at top and bottom?

Spartan, I had the same question about a new SP 2340 I picked up Friday. Out of the box & before I ever fired it, the barrel had a (rather large) shiny half moon on top & one on the bottom of the barrel where the slid (bushing if it had one) contacts the barrel.

The dealer, who I know very well, told me that this is normal & infact proves that Sig fired the gun after assembly. He said that the wear is because of the tight fit, but even then is only cosmetic, i.e. only bluing deep.

I have only put 50 rounds through it, as that it rained all weekend, but I have noticed that even with so few rounds that there are some lighter "rings" or Half moon wear marks appearing on the barrel between the chamber end & the orginal larger marks.

ALL: I would sure like to hear some other opinions as to if this is all normal or not.
I'm a rifle person & when it comes to Auto-Pistols you will not find a much bigger novice around!

Other than the marking on the barrel, the gun functions great & is very accurate (he said after only 50 rounds...)

Hi guys - I had a similar question a month or so ago about my Sigs and H&K USP. The half-moon marking is on all of my pistols and per a very experienced smith in my area, this is completely normal.

Enjoy!

It's perfectly normal. In fact, in over 30 years of shooting semi-auto pistols of all types and calibers, I cannot recall any that did not mark the bbl to some degree.

Spartan,

You're taling about wear on your used pistol right? If it's gouging than I'd be concerned. Otherwise as others have said it's normal.

k in AR,

Well SIG Sauer does test function and fire all pistols. The ones from Germany even come with a proof target. I'd be concerned if the wear is excesive on a NIB, however. IN my experience the wear has been very slight, only noticeable upon close inspection. The wear starts after the first 100 or so rounds.

So many pistols, so little money.
