Barrel Upgrade on 870

I have an old Remington 870 Wingmaster that I am upgrading.
I want to replace the barrel, which is 2 3/4 chamber.
Can an older Wingmaster take a new barrel with a 3-inch chamber?
The Wingmaster is vintage 1970s.

The barrel will probably fit-----But DON'T use 3 inch shells as the receiver isn't made to take that kind pressure and the ejection port is too small also(i think?).

It also gives this warning in the small print in the Remington catalog.

Any 870 barrel will fit your receiver. The ejection port is the same size as the 870 magnums. The only difference it that the ejector is set back 1/4" on the 3' magnums. The receiver is not a problem. The bolt locks into the barrel.

A couple of my 870s were converted to 3 inch by a gunsmith friend when he did other work on them. It seemed to be a simple matter.

I know of no downside to using a 3" chambered bbl on a short shell receiver as long as one shoots 2 3/4" shells.
