barrel scratches

Well I managed to scratch the barrel is a few places on the brand new 590 when installing a tac. light on it :( I live in NJ so humidity is always rather high and im worried if i forget to wipe it down once in awhile it will rust. Is there anything I can do or apply to the scratches to prevent rust? Any sort of paint i could use? Thanks!

Clean it good / put a light coat of oil on it - or maybe some wax and it should work pretty well.

If its a "flat black" finish - you could mask it off / spray it with a little "flat black high temp spray paint" - the kind they use for chimney's, inside fireplaces, woodstoves, etc ...

Another easy fix - is a black permanent marker pen ....

That's a good start. Now take it out and shoot it a lot. It needs WEAR MARKS to look really good. :D

And, yes, a light coat of oil, or rubbing it down after use with a silicone-impregnated cloth, will keep the rust demon at bay...

If it is a blued or black, I just use sharpie marker...:o It does inhibit rust. We learned this by coloring hook tips and barbs for offshore fishing. No rust until full immersion and use in saltwater:eek:
