My PT111 has what appears to be exccesive barrel play when slide is open is this something i can fix myself by taking it apart or is this o.k. any info would be appreciated from any other owners of the PT111 that have had similar problems

Id send it back to the factory ,as i know for a fact that the pt111 has problems .We have had 3 of them blow up on the range i use .They are now banned from being used on that range permanently.

Usually there will be a little barrel play when the slide is open of any autoloader. What you need to be concerned about is if there is any play when the slide is locked into battery, as this is the most critical part of ensuring reliability, safety, and accuracy. Have your local gunsmith look at it, but if it's shooting OK, don't fix what ain't broke. There have been many problems with the PT111, as you will find if you research it here. My own gun had bad accuracy problems, which the factory fixed, and I now have over 1500 rounds (post fix) through mine without a hitch. Seems like quality is hit or miss with these things. Good luck.

I agree with Banzai: free play when a slide is open is normal with almost any pistol. It should not be a matter of concern. If there is free play when the slide is closed, that can affect accuracy, but should not be a safety issue.

(The PT-111 isn't one of my favorite guns, but its new and it'll take them a while to get the bugs worked out.)
