barrel pitting on older guns.......

I have a project marlin 80 22lr I was given. It had a broken front firing pin. So I replaced it. As I am going over this rifle I am noticing some outer barrel pitting which is pretty deep in a couple spots. The bore looks good though. This gun is just going to be a plinker for my collection so my question is, Can outer barrel pitting be a safety concern? And are there any repair technicques I could do to fill the pitting? Or should I just leave it alone and shoot the gun?

pitted bore

Sir:
A Marlin Mod. 60 is a "utility gun" anyway - "very accurate" and if it shoots O.K. I'd just bronze wire brush it every-so-on and leave it be - we don'y really need shiney bright bores to shoot good!

bbl. pitting

Sir:
I'm sorry - I tought your pitting was inside, in the bore!
As long as it's outside don't give it a thought - I've got two mod. 60s and they shhot great
