Barrel Pinning

I have finaly received the license for my 870 Wingmaster (5 1/2 months after application).
Will be using the shotgun primarily as my "Hog Gun" on bushpigs and warthogs.

A friend informed me that the barrel could be pinned to the receiver, the result being increased accuracy, he claims that groups could be halved.
Has anybody tried this and can you please share your results.

Tar Shot and possibly others smith their shotguns this way,
and it can cut group size considerably. There's a downside.
The shotgun cannot be taken down easily for cleaning, storage or substitution of another part.

I've gotten good results not by pinning the bbl, but by removing all the slack in the takeup,so the bbl is immobilized in the receiver, effectively doing what the pinning does.

Pad the jaws of a large set of Channelocks or Visegrips and handtighten the mag tube cap. Then use the Channelocks to tighten the cap ONE,and only one, click further. More tightening can affect reliability, and will not reduce group size any more.

Now, you're ready to zero and test slugs.

Bushpigs and Warthogs, huh? Once you've gotten some of these, please let us know how the slugs did. Thanks....

Thanks Dave,
I followed your advise today, and I will go to the range tommorow to test some slugs.

Yes, I will give some feedback on the warthogs and bushpigs.

Regards
Jacques
