Hi Guys.. for a 1st time venture i'm in the process of building a wildcat on a 700 Rem sa,action .. i have a standard barrel lug / recoil lug that came with it..
i'm wondering if i should use some after market replacement part instead,.. would it make a difference ?, is there one brand bett then another ?, ... i could use some insite this.. was the last thing i've been thinking about..
any advice?
thanks in advance....

I don't see any reason to go to any different recoil lug. What caliber are you going to that would cause questions to arise about the recoil lug?

Jim

thanks for the reply Jim K

well not so much the caliber.. what i should have mentioned is that the barrel will be a heavy varmint contour 28'' long the stock is aluminum bedded so the barrel will be free floating in the stock.. i started thinking at the last minute of how much stress mite acure an the action...
the calibre is .25 [ 250 humdinger] 1/4 bore>small hole more weight..!

Installing a heavier recoil lug with a smaller caliber may help accuracy, as it is more rigid. Since you are replacing the barrel anyway, you might as well opt for a heavier recoil lug. Remington lugs sometimes crack/split when reinstalled, so it's a good idea to replace the lug when rebarreling. An aftermarket lug will probably not run much more than a factory replacement ($25-$30).

THank You all for the reply

i think i see the point of the lug in a better lite now ... the support it gives all round seems a waste not to go the extra mile would just be a mistake .. i'm in deeper in this project$ then i thought i would be .. so this is like a little extra insurance on the expected out come...
thanks again.. RichG,...;)

Many aftermarket lugs are also ground dead flat and parallel instread of the typcial OEM taper.

It has a limited affect on how the action behaves under recoil forces.

reading the replies i went ahead an put a mic on the rem lug.. it reads .1900 to .1915 .. not a 100% flat
some one mentioned that lug should be at leadt 1/4"..?
