Barrel length question.

I am buying a replacement barrel for my Mossberg 500 slug gun so that I can use it for turkey and doves and maybe buckshot. I might also try it for skeet.

I can get a clearance barrel from one source for a very good price, but it only comes in a 24" length. I am used to shooting something in a 26 or 28". Am I likely to see a significant difference in patterning and shooting with a 24 inch barrel?

DaveMcC is right. One caveat.Your timing of the swing will change and could affect your performance quite a bit.Getting used to the 24in barrel is going to be interesting.Timing is everything and you are used to the longer barrels. So practice with the new barrel to get used to the new balance as you swing the gun.Question.What kind of choke does this 24 incher have? Does it come with screw in chokes or will yours fit it? Good luck.

You should be good with a 24" bbl. I've used a 26" bbl double (remember, there's almost no reciever there), and 28" bbls for trapshooting, even out to the 27yd line. Screw-in chokes would be a plus.

Well, as long as we're on Mossy barrels, anybody know where I can get an 18-20" barrel for an 835? Prefer rifled, but I'd settle for a smooth/cylinder, just to add the option of slugs for HD. The current 28" monster is great in the field, but a bit tough to get around corners...or into a case, for that matter.
