barrel length for 357 to burn?

Can't say for sure the powder is completely burnt, but
my .357 20" barrelled lever action is distinctly quieter than my 6"
barrelled .357.

ok, let me make myself clear,
im debating between a 4inch and 5inch- i know sbubs wont utilize the 357s power bc of the bbl length, but will a 4 inch? is there much a diff bw the 4 and the 5?, also- is rugers GP better the the SP in quality- or trigger action/hammer?

and what exactly is the diff bw 40sw and 357sig?
thanks chaps

I'm sincerely doubting that you'll notice any real difference in burning characteristics between the 4 and 5" barrels.

I don't notice any great difference between my 4 and 6" barreled Model 28s.

What you will get with a 5" barrel over a 4" is a slightly greater sighting radius, which can mean more precise aiming.

You'll also generally get slightly higher muzzle velocity and bullet energy with the longer barrel.

The .40 uses a heavier bullet - in the 140 to 175 gr. range, at somewhat lower velocity.

The .357 Sig uses a lighter bullet - in the 125-gr. range - at higher velocity.

The .357 Sig is a bottle necked round.

Both are good cartridges for their intended purposes.
