Barrel length for 22lr

I know that a 20" barrel on a 223 round gives higher velocity than a 16" but an not sure if this is true for the 22lr. Anyone know what would be best for 22lr 16" or 20"? The main 22 ammo I will shoot is the aguila super high velocity 22lr if that will make a difference

The .22 LR burns all its powder in about 16", but expanding gas keeps pushing a little longer. Up to about 30" the velocity increases, after that, extra barrel length actually slows the bullet down. Unless a short barrel is wanted for other reasons (what are they?) go with at least a 20".

I thought some folks had found slower velocities as .22 LR barrels got beyond 16-18" I've chrono'd a Ruger 10-22 (18") & an Anschutz w/24" bbl same day/same ammo and found the Ruger faster.
