Barrel inserts????

Does anyone have any experience using barrel inserts to convert a 30-06 to use a .308 cartridge?

I have seen them advertised but have not found anyone who has used them.

Any information would be appreciated.

In my opinion, barrel inserts should be avoided if the firearm is a semi-automatic. The Navy tried it and found they could work themselves loose; creating a "headspace" like problem with the next round being an unsupported case.

A friend uses them in a single shot Thompson Contender. I suspect they would work well in a bolt action where you can withdraw the spent cartridge slow enough to ensure that the insert doesn't stick to the case. Gee, if the insert was cartridge oriented (suppose to stay with the case), there'd be no problems, would there?
