Barrel deposits - what are they

I've got some stubborn marks showing up in the barrel of my Makarov (chrome lined).

I only shoot FMJ, no lead. Plenty of work with solvents and bronze brushes has little effect and I'm left wondering what they could be and what I need to remove them.

Copper fouling maybe ?

Need suggestions as to the cause and the remedy.

Thanks in advance,

Get some RemClean and follow the instructions. Don't forget to shake the bottle well before using--if you don't you're wasting your time.

If that doesn't take it out, you're probably just seeing tool marks or manufacturing irregularities in the bore.

BTW, some ammo makers use jacket material that is very hard to remove once it gets stuck in your bore. Federal is the worst I've encountered in this regard.

Also, I couldn't tell from your post if you had tried a copper solvent, or just standard nitro/powder solvents. If you haven't , you might try something the Hoppe's # 9 BENCHREST solvent. The #9 Benchrest stuff is the copper solvent. The standard #9 is just a standard nitro/powder solvent.

John,

Thanks, I haven't tried copper solvent. It definitely isn't machining marks, it look as if something just rubbed off the rounds just ahead of the chamber.
