Barrel cover

I am mounting a shotgun on my ATV with the barrel facing up for various reasons. The main reason is me not wanting to "rake" anyone I drive by like it would when mounted in the horizontal position. Mounted vertical, I am concerned about debris falling in the barrel. I remember seeing covers that go on the ends of long guns that are simply blown out with the first shot. Is there something special about these covers or would a child's balloon accomplish the same results? My concern is chamber pressure and marking the finish on a parkerized gun.

you could always get a cork or rubber stopper or even use a condom or a piece of black electrical tape.....

or get a shotgun "sleeve", (like a case but not as heavy duty) and use that, or even one of the silicone "socks"

edit: even a zip-lock baggy with a piece of tape, if all you're trying to do is keep rain/snow, or tree debris out until getting to your spot.....

I recently learned that a tiny water balloon works and they are available in green (supposed to look like a hand grenade) fitting snug on the muzzle.

could always mount it so the barrel faces down, its not going to rake anyone and most likely will not go off anyway.

But I guess for "various reasons" the barrel will be mounted up.

+7 on the condom. nothing like COMPLETE firearm safety.

oh and smitty, yeah, regular condoms are too small for my shotgun. I have to get the magnum sizes
