Barrel band for Win Mod 70?

I recently acquired a Winchester model 70 in 375 H&H. It is very nice, but has apparently had the barrel band for the front sling swivel removed - or perhaps there never was one. Anyway, I was wondering if there is a simple solution, other than having one installed by a smith. They also removed the iron sights, which I would like to replace. This apears to be a circa 1971 vintage gun with a really nice stock.

Without going into a lot of detail, it would be best to let a smith solder a ring back onto the barrel. He should be able to replace the sights even if he has to order them. I wouldn't want you to alter it yourself and mess up a simple replacement item. Most of the 375 H&H had the barrel band which held the sling swivel in place. I would ask for the folding leaves sight to be replaced on the barrel. Good luck with the rifle. I would make sure whoever you ask to do the job to make sure it is put back as close to original as possible. It isn't a collectible piece right now, but you never know when it might be.

You might check to make sure there wasn't a stud at one time in the forearm to hold the sling swivel. If there was, you could have it replaced if you didn't want to spend the money for the band to be replaced. It would probably be correct though to replace the band. It shouldn't be that much to have it done correctly.
