does anyone know about the ammo they make? primarily the .223 55 gr FMJ? mainly, is it good plinking ammo for my AR.
does it have a case that isn't steel? what kind of bullet is it?

i am looking to make my trips to the range chepaer. thanks

It's Russian stuff and is does have a steel case. It is decent quality, at least their 7.62x39 is. Some worry that it will wear out the chamber and/or extractor on the AR. I don't think this is a huge concern. People are also concerned over laquer build up. I've never seen any of this either. Just clean your rifle (of course with an AR you do that all the time anyway right?

I've shot thousands of rounds of Russian ammo without jams, failure to feed, with only the occasional failure to fire, but that was shooting an AK.OTOH I have many freinds that have bought the cheaper Russian .223 for thier AR's and have yet to see any of them go through more than two magazines without thier AR's becoming jamomatics. The AR's gas system is just to sensitive to last very long firing that dirty Russian ammo.Don't get me wrong Russian ammo works fine.....when you use it in Russian or former combloc weapons.

Check this interesting russian site:

This is the normal ammo the russians use in their weapons. The steel cases won't damage your chamber, and the steel cores are covered with lead and/or copper, and won't damage your bore (if the bullets are mild steel, they actually don't need any jacket). The ammo may be dirty, tough.

I bought a couple hundred rounds and the first two boxes I shot in my Daewoo DR-200 three rounds did not fire. The Daewoo realy smacks the primer. Its not the rifle. Might be a bad lot of ammo or some thing like that. I still have 160 rds of it left. thats my two cents worth.

How is their 30-06?

I am looking at Barnaul 30-06 (other options are Talon and Cavim, any comments on the latter?)...my only experience with that brand was in 9x18 Makarov (very good).

Wolf is good but not available in 30-06. Once my 800 rounds of 30-06 are gone, I might have to re-barrel my Garand to .308. Sigh.

Wolf Ammo is awesome!!

Hi,

I personally have not used the Barnaul, But i use the Wolf ammo in my AK-47 and i have shot 500 rounds so far with no problems and the ammo is super clean with little carbon fouling. Try the Wolf ammo, it is sometimes cheaper and it is cleaner too!!

Thank You

Both the Barnaul and Wolf 7.62X39 feed, fire and extract without a hitch in my 7.62 Robinson Armament VEPR II.

Both the Barnaul and Wolf .223 feed, fire and extract without a hitch in my Bushmaster V-Match 16" AR15.

Both the Barnaul and Wolf .223 had some extraction problems in my Robinson Armament M96 before it was broken in, but both now function flawlessly. (I now mostly shoot only brass cased stuff in it, though, anyway.)

Both the Barnaul and Wolf rounds, in either .223 or 7.62, seem dirtier than "premium" (eg, Federal) American ammo, and a bit less accurate, too, but I can't tell much difference between Wolf and Barnaul when compared to each other, except that they do SMELL different; must use different powders. Best.
