Barnaul 30-06 and Garand: not good

Tried that steel-case 06 and it is very hard to put the clip in far enough for the bolt to close. Chambered and fired fine after that. Fortunately, a range buddy would buy the whole case from me for his non-Garand rifles. The other surprise was that CCI shotshells in 45acp (Thanks Mark!) actually cycled reliably in a Glock 21. Pattern was about 4" at 10ft and quite even, penetration was limited to about 1/2" print magazine. Might work on snakes.

Hasn't anybody warned you about the dangers of feeding the M1 Garand, even your famous shorty Garand, with ammo that doesn't duplicate M2 Ball velocities and pressures? There are indeed modern commercial batches of .30-06 that are gentle on the Garand's gas system and operating rod, but last I heard, that steel-cased stuff wasn't one of them. It might not be a bad idea for you to mosey over to CSP Guntalk and read up on the stuff before a batch of Hornady Light Magnum accidentally finds it's way into your Garand, ouch!

Truthfully, Oleg, if you need good safe ammo for your Garand, let me know and I'll point you to either a source, give you reloading specs, or send you to a CMP-affiliated range where you can purchase your issue at their John C. Garand matches. M1 Garands are too nice to ruin due to improper ammo. ;)

I have 32 rounds of Remington green box JSP and some 800 rounds of M2 Talon remakes. The latter isn't very good ammo (rough cases don't chamber as smoothly as they should). I keep wishing that the rifle was in .308

If you can point me to a good source of basic M2 ball, I'd be very much obliged...hopefully, I can find a source less expensive than $300/1000rds that I keep seeing.

I've only bought Lake City ball from Cole (yes, $300/1000), but service is great. I ordered on Tuesday afternoon and had it on my doorstep on Friday.

I buy my M2 ball from the cmp. It is the real deal and you get to keep the clips it comes on. John
PS I just bought some of that CCI Blazer 45 ACP shot shells for snakes. Will this tear up the lands on my 45?

Don't know about the 45 birdshot. At most, I'd expect it to lead the grooves a bit...but Glock bore doesn't use cut rifling so it wasn't a concern.
