BAR recoil pads

I have an older (MkII I think) Browning BAR in 30-06 which currently wears a hard plastic buttplate. I'd like to replace this with a nice recoil pad. The Limbsaver would be my first choice, but I understand that you must cut 1/4 in. off of your stock for their pad to fit. I guess my question is 2 part:
1) Is making the required cut for the limbsaver, a real PITA?
2) Does anyone have other recommendations for pre-fit recoil pads for this rifle.

You only need to cut the stock of any rifle if, after adding the pad, the length of pull is too long for you.
You have to cut the stock on just about any rifle when fitting a recoil pad. The mounting surface for the recoil pad has to be flat. The plastic buttplate is curved. And yes, a mitre saw is preferred due to the fine teeth. But you will still have to run it across a belt sander to make it flat and square to the centerline.
