Banning: the political's trite solution for all ills of the world

Hmm...that would make them...BIOLOGICAL WEAPONS! Call the UN! Disarm dachshunds now!

I've got mixed opinions on this one.

On one hand, you're usually not responsible criminally for what your dogs do, no matter what a stupid-a$$, irresponsible dog owner you are. A 9 yr old kid was killed near Sacramento a while back by a pack of dogs that some guy had been "collecting" from the shelters. They (something like 16 of them, mostly pit-bull mixes) got out of the fence, and killed the kid. Why isn't he in prison? He is guilty of negligent homocide in my book. The only recourse is in civil court.

Banning the dogs isn't the solution though. Just like banning guns, its not going to keep people from being idiots. Unfortunately, its impossible to regulate stupidity. There should be CRIMINAL repurcussions for idiots who don't know what they're doing creating vicious dogs who can't handle the responsibility.

Defining "attack dogs" is the same as defining "assualt rifles." Both are extremely arbitrary and usually decided by one or two people, based on the "offending gun/dog of the day."
"Oh, no! Someone was killed with such and such knid of gun! We must ban it!"

I had two pit pulls They were definitely NOT attack dogs. As a matter of fact, we also had a rabbit that would chase the pit bulls away from it's space. And yes, they both ran away!
It was really funny and both dogs were friendly (large) lap dogs that wanted nothing more that a scratch on the head.
It's not the dogs that need to be banned, people just need to be responsible pet owners, just the same as they need to be responsible gun owners, and that's where the problem lies.
