Ban on Gun Show Nashville

Just published in Nashville, Tn.

http://tnne.ws/1XEqlPb

Dec. 1, 2015 The newly elected Mayor of Nashville banned the monthly sale of guns at the Nashville Fair Grounds which is city owned. She used 3 separate recent incidents where the guns sold there where used to commit a crime.
This monthly gun show has been operating since the 70's.
The person's name who operated this show's name is David Goodman who vowed to appeal this ban.
What I don't understand is how will this affect my area on Gun Rights and why?

Nashville is booming and mostly artsy types are moving in and the city has become decidedly liberal .

The current Mayor is openly anti-gun and this last year we passed a law that removed from cities the right to ban legal carry in parks. I suspect their ban will not stand but we can expect more from this Mayor as time goes on.

She was unhappy about the parks so this is just one of her gambits to "pay back" gun rights folks.

Here is my take on what will happen. Since the fairgrounds are city-owned property, the "ban" will stand - the city can simply choose to not lease the property for that purpose. However, they can't outright ban all gun shows so the show promoter will find a new venue.

Our local County pulled the same thing, citing a concern about insurance requirements no one was ever offered the opportunity to meet. So, no more 75-table shows, just 25-table shows at other locations.

The County facility is still being used by others, with no change in insurance requirements, so this was entirely an anti-gun move, although it's been denied ever since.

Suing them is probably a waste of time, better to put the money and effort into getting them out of office to where they can't do any harm.

TG,
Your statement is incorrect. GOP Governor Haslam put these"stooges" into their jobs before 2012. If you would like the article, I will DM it to you.

No Doc, it is city property and under Metropolitan Charter Section 11.601 they are nominated by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Governor has nothing to do with it.

Anyway, I didn't say she put them in (but she did have a hand in it as a city councilman) but that they were acting as her stooges in banning the gun shows.

It's in the Metro Charter.

It seems that I was in error which was pointed out by Tennessee Gentleman.
I stand corrected and surely appreciate getting the correct info.
Thank you.

Well she can ban the fair grounds from renting the city owned venue to them, but she cannot ban them from the city. There is a huge new convention center downtown as well as other venues around Davidson County.

The dark blue city council here in Tucson did the same thing, so the regular gun shows just moved to the fairgrounds and the old indoor swap meet exhibition center - both just outside the city limits. The only result is the loss of revenue to the city. Brilliant.
